if you have dark skin then why do you wanna tan?? anyways i'd go to a tanning bed, i hate using fake tanners, they smear and crap and make you smell weird. Use a lotion, thats works well, expect to pay around 50 bones for a good lotion

Use a fake tanner the day of the show if you want, but go to a tanning bed the night before your show. It will help you lose any excess water. My roommate wrapped his abs/lower back in plastic wrap and put a combination of thiomucase and grain alcohol all over his body at night and while he was tanning for about two weeks before. He was dry as a bone the day of the contest...won the overall too.

Stay away from Jan Tana's Competition Tan stuff. Made me look TERRIBLE! Little black dots all over me, hard to spread evenly, sucked! Besides, it looks more like mud than a tan.

I always use a VHR tanning bed for a couple reason. Very relaxing, cuts down on Acne and I lose a lot of water. For cheaper tanning shit date a hair dresser then you can get the stuff at cost. My mommy gets it for me and I pay 26bucks a bottle for Swedish Beauty DARE tingle +10 or 22 bucks for Super S.H.O. 6000. These products seam to be the best. There is a bed called the Ultra bronze that I have found to be the best. Also the Sun board rocks too but my big ass slides out of it. I usally tan 3 times a week. I also go to this place in the middle of no where and get unlimited tanning in the Ultra Bronze for 100 buck a month.

Just my 2 cents I love being Tan

Just want to point out that it is not the bed that makes the tan. It is the lamps that make the strength of the session. If two beds have the same number of lamps in them...and one has stronger lamps...the bed with the stronger lamps will be stronger.

Saying that a bed is the "best" is not the correct thing to say. I like Chevrolet's...but if you compare a small v-8 Chevy with a Ford 351...the Ford will win. See what I mean? I hope that I am making sense. My point is that in a tanning bed...the bulbs count much more than who makes the bed.

Its true about the bulbs but but there is a diffenence in beds also. Ultra VHR, VHR and old style beds have alot to do with the tanning procedure. The beds I use have Ultra VHR bulbs compared to alot of beds that use 270 or 260 watt bulbs. High pressure tanning is the way to go meaning Ultra VHR.

P.S. never mind that little 351 go for the 455 in my 70 1/2 Trans am Now we are talking Big. LOL

Can I get a nice golden tan all around face and body even if I have fair skin? I'm white, I never tried the tanning bed, but when I went out to the beach, I always just get sunburned. Which lotions should i use, etc.? thanks.

Shawn,
I also use to have that problem. I have very light skin. It was about three years ago I was going to Rio D and wanted to get tan first so I wouldnt burn so I tried a tanning booth. I used the stuff called Hot Chocolate by california tan and It worked great. When you go the first time dont go for the full time try 8 minutes insted of 12 the bump it up the next time and then the next. You want to stay away from tingle factors at first so you dont burn. Then after a year you will be able to use anything. I never burn even from the sun anymore

I highly suggest you recant that statement before I embarass you on the board.

Ford 5.8- 4 inch bore, 3.50 inch stroke, narrow casting, low nickel content.
Chevy 6.6- 4.126inch bore, 3.75 inch stroke, wide casting, high nickel content.

Which hold the more potential for power? A small bore, small stroke motor with an inferior by design cylander head air entry angle, and low quality casting do to it's no nickel content, or the wide casting, high nickle SBC, with vastly superior air entry angles.

Can you name a Windsor factory head that will support over 600hp? I can name several SBC heads that will, FACTORY! CAST IRON at that, let's not even go into aluminum, because it would be embarassing for you.

The small block chevy was produced from 1955 untill 1996, unchanged in it basic design. Why? It worked, just that simple.

The fastest production body land vehicle
-1991 Pontiac Firebird
Chevy has over 40 years in dominating Drag racing. Chevy is one of the most successful manufacturers of Nascar winning teams. Shall I go on?

Okay, no problem. Ford's rod to stroke ratio have never been favorable. Ford windsor motors use 10 head bolts!!! 10! No wonder you guys are blowing head gaskets so easily.

Ford's oil system is vastly inferior to chevy's. VASTLY! This is why oil'ing and cooling has ALWASY been a problem in the Windsor family.

The Coolant routes of the windsor family run through parts of the motor that are't "Hot spots" picking up more heat, and making the cooling of the "Hot spots" less effective.

God, I could talk to hours about this, but when I comes right down to it...

The fastest motors are SBC's
The Cheapest motors are SBC's
The most realiable motor are SBC's

This is why the motor was produced for over 40 years!

Tanning doesn't work for light skinned people like myself.

I hear Pro-Tan works good.

Back to topic, Tan Perfect was great for a light skinned person, but I couldn't get dark enough with it. I shall say again, just to renforce - STAY AWAY FROM JAN TANA COMPETITION TAN! The Worst stuff I have EVER bought.

I do not reccommend high pressure tanning. Just too dangerous in my opinion for your skin. Once again...that is my opinion. Also...from a sales/purchaser standpoint...I have seen a lot of businesses go under because they purchased a high pressure bed. Spending 10k at the minimum, 30k for a lot of them, will kill your business. One can purchase a good 32 lamp bed for about 6k or under and you can run a profitable business with it.

Comparing the Chevy and the Ford? CHEVY HANDS DOWN. I was talking about basic engines and I am not a engine genius by any means. I own 3 vehicles:
1993 Chevrolet 3500 Dually, 4 door, 454, 300hp chip
1995 Chevrolet Suburban, 350
1999 Chevrolet Camaro, v6 (insurance sucks)

I used to have a dodge and a ford...sold them to ride in a Chevy!!!!!

My basic comparison between a Chevy and a Ford was trying to compare the old Chevy small v-8 with about 200hp or so to a Ford 351 with about 265 horse power. There is no fair comparison. I guess I could have used the comparison of a small vs a big Chevy v-8 and that would have been a much better analogy...but against my better judgement... My point was that the beds are basically equal except for the bulbs that one puts in them. I don't even consider high pressure beds in the scenerio because I do not like them anyway...

Not to offend anyone.

Thanks for the Chevy info man...I love reading that kind of stuff.

so i just start off low, what should i be using? I would use a stand up VHR42 for like 8 mins and use a none tingle bronzing lotion
any suggestions? Swedish beauty Browning Surup or California tan Hot Chocolote.
how long would it take me, You should see results by 2 time going
and how often should i increase my time
I would increase it every 2nd time till you can handle the full time
and days on it? 2 time to three time a week, once you get the base going you will only have to go maybe 1 or 2 time a week.
Remeber to use a good moisturizer on youre days off of tanning it will help keep the tan longer and will help so youre skin doesnt dry out also flax seed oil or first cold pressed olive oil helps keep the skin from being dry
