Every time I bench, I get a bad pain in my left shoulder that feels like it is very deep in the shoulder, but I can't tell if it's muscle pain or joint pain. It only comes on after I do at least 3 or 4 sets, and I start feeling it a couple minutes after I finish the set. It doesn't affect the weight I can lift while I'm benching, but hurts like a bitch when I'm done. Anybody experience this problem?

Yeah, i get the same shit. I dont know why though. I also get it when i do dips. Its always in my left shoulder too. Maybe our muscles cant catch up with our training while on the AS. Dont really know for sure though.

Check out the Archives re: Bicep Tendon. Certainly not trying to diagnose your problem over the net with this limited info but it is often the culprit and discussed here.

Yes I used to get the same pain in my left shoulder. The only way I got rid of it was by making sure my shoulders were really warmed up and loose. I take a 5 lb weight and swing my arm around a bit to loosen it up....and it really helped out. From time to time I get that feeling back in the shoulder...but that is very rare.

good luck

I have the exact same problem. Interestingly, if I do incline or decline bench it doesn't hurt, its just flat bench. Very curious as to what it is. Also just my left shoulder.

The only problem with using anti-inflamitory products is that if the injury is one of your rotator cuff muscles, You're just gonna make it worse cause the muscle tear will still be there but you wont feel it. See a physiotherapist. Remember the rotator cuff muscles are very small compared to the shoulder muscles.

I have posted this before, go to a good chiropractor, alot of shoulder pain, especially in our case is caused by scar tissue, which damage nerves, and thus causes pain..

At the very least make sure you warm up properly, and ice down when you are finished..

Do you feel the pain where your shoulder
meets your collar bone? This would be up on top. This is call your AC joint. The connective tissue between the two areas gets worn. Causing friction in the joint and pain. Once this joint seperates a bit more you will not have pain because the joint is not rubbing against each other.
Been there with the same pain. Had a few shots straight into the joint. Then one day I realized Hey no more pain.

Dude I have the same trouble all except it is in my right shoulder. I am left handed. So maybe that is why.

Give up the bar use dumbbells instead. Ever since I have switched to dumbbell, it has gone away. Give it a try.

I have the same problem bro as we speak my left shoulder is bothering me so bad i can't even bench 135 without it hurting..I am 24 and a few yrs ago i tore it up pretty bad and went to the chiop. And he said it was when i was younger lifting to heavy of weight with bad form.. I ice my shoulder down every day when i get back from the gym. they have a pill like a vitamin that is suppose to be for joint pain.. Anothe cause of shoulder pain is the acl joint also known as the rotator cuff is being moved forward casue of the pec muscle pulling the shoulder forward.. If u r in the beginning stages of shoulder pain do back excercisises like lat pulldowns in the front to pull the shoulder back and it keeps the chest from pulling it back.............

A friend of mine was having the same problem when he benched,he said it was because his grip was too wide. After he narrowed his grip a little bit ,it went away because it was taking more of his shoulders out of the movement.

I had the same pain, after a few months of physical therapy and vioxx, celebrex my doc decided to take a peek in there. Grade 2 tear of the long head biceps tendon, and minor rotator cuff tear. That was 4 months ago and I am still in PT for it. I have to be really careful doing any bicep work especialy seated rows, they cause severe inflamation that lasts for over a week. Any ideas about recovery? My doctors have tried everything even cortisone. Nothing is working.

I also experience this pain in my left shoulder. Its been going on for the last few weeks so ive been trying to take it easy. But the pain in my shoulder doesnt come close to the pain in my right wrist when benching heavy with the bar. Anyone else have wrist pain?

buy the book 7 minute rotator cuff solution, ice 20 mins after every workout and hourly if pain persists, rest as much as possible between overhead pressing days, limit overhead pressing movements to a minimum,
take antiinflammatories with food every 4 hours
