i was wondering who smokes here and still juices? i know some big guys that smoke and cycle and it doesnt seem to hinder gains, probably endurance which is crucial because of oxygen. but who smokes here and whats the effect of smokin and workin out.

bump for corleone ! i smokED for 10 years 2 packs a day ! been off for 3 months now , when i did it never seemed to affect my gains ,but, cardio was a bitch without falling over ! feels much better now !

Corleone I am with you on that one also. I have never in a day tried it. Now granted I am still going to die from some form of cancer becasue so far it has taken all of my family. All 4 grandparents, and my mother..all from cancer. So looks like that will be my down fall also.

Smoking is the most ridiculous habit I can think of. Yellow teeth, cancer, smelling like shit, decreased cardiovascular endurance, and decreased testosterone levels are all good reasons not to start/quit. Never tried one in my life and never will...

To me tobacco. In moderation one can use roids and never have any long term affects from it. Tobacco and smoking have long term effects on the user and the one around the user. Roids will be the only drug the enters my body.

WOW! surprised to see so many cigarette virgins besides myself. Seems like when I tell prople that I alway's get some wierd look of disbelief? I've alway's been an athlete and to me athletes shouldn't smoke plain and simple. Plus I find it disgusting, it's also a major turnoff for me to be with a girl who smokes.

i sometimes smoke useally when i'm under stress . ciggarettes r poisen no doubdt about it but thie kinda make u think about nicotine:

Nicotine as an Anti-estrogen/Anti-aromatase

Nicotine works in two ways to lower estrogen levels. First it is an anti-aromatase like arimadex. Nicotine has been shown to inhibit the conversion of androstenedione and testosterone into estrogen in a study by the University of Utah School of medicine. Also unlike novadex or clomid nicotine is a true anti estrogen and not just an estrogen blocker. By this I mean that nicotine actually speeds up the degradation of blood estrogen levels. So nicotine causes a reduction in estrogen production and also decreases existing estrogen levels.

Regulation of hormone levels

When Nicotine is used on a daily basis it stabilizes the Adrenal hormones by acting on the Hypothalamus, which affects the pituitaries release of regulating hormones and increases GH release. This keeps various hormone levels stable during times of depression, or stress. That is why a smoker can have a cigarette in the morning to wake up and one at night to help relax.

When you stop using nicotine your whole endocrine system gets f_cked up. Your cortisone, and adrenaline levels take a nose dive until your natural hormone regulation takes control again. Fortunately nicotine does not seem to have a negative effect on GH release upon cessation.

Getting your natural hormone levels back in order takes about two weeks. As body builders we can use this to our advantage. When you stop a cycle you can start using nicotine. This will quickly reduce the high cortisone levels to a normal level. After coming off nicotine you can start a new cycle and take advantage of the low cortisone levels for the first two weeks

Nicotine as a smart drug
Nicotine is a cholinergic agonist and mimics the effects of acetylcholine. It also has been shown to increase levels of neurotransmitters dopamine, nor-epinephrine, and serotonin. Dopaminergic neurons are linked to reward pathways and pleasure while serotonergic neurons are associated with anti-anxiety.
This effect may explain the addicting property of nicotine. But they also seem to have some nootropic benefits. Studies have shown that mice perform better on mentally strenuous tasks after being given Nicotine. Nicotine also causes a release of vassopresin. This hormone is the hormone that helps imprint thoughts into long-term memory.
Help with PGF2a

In one study nicotine was able to reduce the side effects of the prostaglandin PGF2a. In isolated canine retinal arteries partially contracted with PGF2� nicotine was added and resulted in the relaxation of those arteries without affecting the other effects of PGF2a. So in theory nicotine can be added to a PGF2a cycle to decrease intestinal discomfort.

Nicotine also seems to cause a release of prostaglandins, which favors the good prostaglandins like PGF2a.

Fat loss properties:

One study stated that Nicotine was possibly the most effective anti obesity drug available at the time that the study was performed (late 70�s). Nicotine has various properties that help in weight reduction while sparing muscle.

Reduced appetite:
Nicotine inhibits food intake via three mechanisms, first it elevated Adrenalin and Nor-adrenalin levels which reduces appetite. Next Nicotine itself has been shown to reduce the craving for carbohydrates. Great addition to a ketogenic diet.

Thermogenic effects:
The release of Adrenalin and Nor-adrenalin also cause a thermogenic effect similar to that of ECA.

Actual fat reduction:
Nicotine stimulates a very rapid mobilization of fatty deposits. This happens as quickly as 10 minutes after administration. The lipids are mobilized and free fatty acids are released in the blood stream in great amounts. The free fatty acids diminish quickly due to an unknown action of nicotine. Nicotine seems to help the body use the FFA�s for energy in an accelerated fashion.

To recap Nicotine has an eight-fold weight loss effect on the system.

1.Reduction of overall appetite
2.Reduced craving for carbs
3.Thermogenic effect
4.Fatty deposit mobilization
5.Stimulation of FFA degradation
6.Estrogen reduction
7.Prostaglandin release
8.Growth hormone release
Negative aspects of Nicotine:
I have talked about all the good things that nicotine does but what are the negative effects? Well I know everyone is thinking cancer right? Wrong, nicotine is not the cancer-causing agent in cigarettes. It is just the addictive chemical that makes you intake the 2000 or so carcinogens in tobacco. I am not talking about smoking here; use the gum or the patches. Nicotine does have some negative effects though:
Negative effects of Nicotine:
1.Decreased Vit. C
2.Decreased Vit. E
3.Increased VLDL
4.Decreased HDL
5.Addictive properties
6.And all the typical sides of stimulants
So to counteract these just make sure you take extra vitamin C and E and watch your saturated fat intake. As for the addictive properties well that�s up to you.

isnt' tobacco an appetite suppresant also? if so any anti-aromotizing effects wouldn't be worth it if it took away appetite, which is very important for gains

I started smoking back in high school (up to about a pack a day) about a year before I first started training. I got ripped as shit when I started lifting (without cardio or a good diet) and looked great in spite of smoking. I did find that I couldn't handle squats, or endurance sets like drops or giants sets, cuz I was always congested. Also, I just felt generally shitty. I quit when I was 18 and I've never inhaled a single cigarette since. Now I feel healthier and can handle my cardio, drop sets with ease. I'm sure you could still make great progress while smoking, but why stress your body with any more poisons than you need to. If you're gonna do something potentially hazardous to your health, at least it should have positive effects (e.g, roids for muscle building) as opposed to something that doesn't give you a single benefit in the world except for feeding a stupid addiction (e.g, cigarettes). Obviously if you haven't quit yet, you're still planning on smoking, but if you do decide to quit, I can tell you that cold turkey is the only way to go...just takes will-power (like a pre-contest diet!).

LOL Ironbarbarian! I just find it real ironic how people who smoke, can sit and critisize people like us because we want to be big. In all actuallity they're in worse health, and we look good. They have yellow teeth, yellow fingers, stink like shit, and have a nasty habit in which they have to take a break every 30 min's. We look good, feel good, and are strong as hell.

I have never even tried a cigarette. I'm in no way flaming anyone who has..Both my Parents when I was growing up smoked two packs a day. But to me it seems to defeat the purpose of working out to better your body and health, just to pollute it with that stuff. I mean Bstrong said some benefits of nicotine as an anti estrogen..but I can get clomid or nolvadex for a hell of a lot less than most people spend on cigarettes in a month, and yeah I guess that some people would argue that juice is bad for you as well but everything that I've ever read pretty much sums up that in moderation and ample off time one could argue that it might even be a healthy practice. Putting nicotine aside I don't think anyone can list any benefits from smoking...Again any smokers out there please don't take offense..I know It's tuff to quit It took open heart surgery before my folks quit cold turkey...I just think the cons way outway the pros..especially for a bunch of uys (and girls) trying to better themselves....

very intelligent nopaper. I've never gotten gyno from gear, so that means it doesn't cause gyno. I've never gotten acne so that means it doesn't cause acne. Not everyone suffers from the same side effects. I said weed CAN cause gyno. Does that mean it will? NO, it just means it can.

I have a friend who goes anywhere from 205-235lb depending on his cycle and he smokes and dips all the time. He dose lose gains quickly after a cycle though but he dosent use clomid and has a few other bad habits. this freak was 235lb when he was 16. I dip now and dont smoke because of cardio smoking makes me feel like shit. when I dip on and eca stack can do longer cardio and more sit ups than with just eca. That was a good post about the effects of nictione.

bros I smoke weed everyday, before I workout, I know some will flame, but it helps me get in a zone, I mix strong ass coffee with the weed, gives a fuckin kick, the coffee is good for energy and the weed helps with the pain, I guess I am one in a million except ARNOLD, but yeah I fuckin hit it hard everyday, currently 230 lookin better each day.

This estrogen lowering effect was noticed in women was it not? So then this may not be applicable to men. Alcohol raises testosterone in women but decreases it in men. Can someone tell me different?

i am down with most of you bros. i tried it thinking it would be cool or something a while back and realized it is the most worthless thing. a little buzz the first couple of times you smoke is defenently not worth the risks.

I smoke 1-1/2 packs a day and weed on the weekends. I know a lot of bro's who do the same who are huge.

I'm known to smoke a Cuban on the weekends on and off cycle. Doesn't seem to give me problems. I'm 6'4'' 295lb. at 13% bodyfat. It doesn't seem to give Michael Jordan problems he is one of the greatest athletes ever to live...a winstrol addict, just like myself ......
