For the past 5 months, I have been taking T3 on and off, due to the recommendations of a trainer who had put me on a weight loss program based on the anabolic diet. Recently, I went for a health screening which revealed that my thyroid production was extremely low. While my trainer did mention that it was not good to use T3 on a long-term basis, he never mentioned anything about T3 possibly screwing up my thyroid production. My one concern is, is this effect reversible? I was told by another party that there is a threshold for thyroid production, and once crossed, I could find myself on thyroid medication for life. Can anyone advise?

Yes t-3 Triiodothyronine will decrease your own levels of t-3. Your thyroid is made up of follicle cells that secrete thyroglobin and this protein coupled with iodine makes your t-3 hormone. If you are taking a prolonged cycle of t-3 your follicle cells are fooled into thinking that enough t-3 is in your blood stream, therefore yor thyroid will decrease the production of thyroglobin thus
your natural lelvel of t-3 will decrease. I would suggest short cycles no more than 2-3 wks max with a layoff and than repeat.

5 months is a long time. Not a good idea. I haven't tried it yet but I've got some on the way and I only plan on using it for 3 weeks.

Delta what is your TSH level low end is 0.46 to 6.0 on the high end in most labs.If you don't know call your doc and find out. If your TSH is way over a 6.0 then you might have problems.

Thanks all for your input! pitbull2, my thyroid production IS on the low side (although I don't have the figures off hand), but my pulse rate is on the high side, which is rather contradictary as thyroid problems generally result in a low pulse rate. So I guess I'll take your advice, 'fess up to the doc that I've been on thyroid pills from my trainer, and take some blood tests to figure out how to get my thyroid production back on track!

5 month is a lot of time to do this stuff
you can cause your thiroed to shut down,
the hypotalmus is also scanning your blood for this hormon and if the levels are to high
she sends an order to shut it down but the probleam is that in a lot of the cases this is not a reversibale process.
take some time off let the levels come back to a normal states

as a result of the T3 your thyroid can stop producing and have trouble starting back up once you stop the T3... the best thing to do is to use it for 18-22 days and then rest for two weeks and then use it again
