Does anyone know if Anabolic Steroids have been used effectively to heal ACL ruptures before? I heard something about this, but I'm not too sure. I ruptured my ACL last year when I was hit by a car, and since then I've been trying to get back to my former fitness. My leg is still unstable, even after I had arthroscopy on the torm cartilage. I had no surgery for the ACL reconstruction, yet, because the surgeon I saw said it might not be necessery if the ACL doesn't make my knee too unstable; besides, it's NHS so maybe they're not too keen to do it anyway. Does anybody out there know if Anabolic steroids can heal ligament ruptures or at least help to heal them? Has anyone experienced it first hand? I'd really appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks.

They have absolutely no positive effect on ligaments; if anyone has info contrary to this please be prepared to back it up.

If your ACL is completely ruptured then there is absolutely nothing you can do to heal except surgery; if it is not a complete rupture then it will heal after a long time(ligaments are avascular and will take a year to be 100%)but could still be very lax depending on how stretched out it is. If you are not active then you really don't need an ACL but if you are active like most people and have a complete rupture get the reconstructive surgery; good luck!

I agree w/musclestud. I've had 5 ACL reconstructions. I'm not blaming them on AS usage, but I'm sure they didn't help the problem. If I were you I would start some GH, to try and regrow some cartilage, you are going to need it. Tripp out.........

Thanks for the advice. But when you say GH, d'you mean Growth Hormone? Sorry if it sounds an ignorant question ... I've been training ten years before the accident but I'd never considered steroids or anything until the ACL got ruptured, so I'm not clear on these things. The ACL is not completely torn, and the knee is not badly unstable, but the quads on that leg have really really wasted.
