I am ACE certified. The ace certification is well reconized. It is taken by almost any gym. The test for the certificaiton is very rigoris and time consuming. Study hard.

NSCA is the gold standard. Get your CSCS if you have an undergrad degree. ------------------

I heard from more people that ACE was more reputable.

If i get the training material from a personal trainer......can i use them to study and just pay for the exam? ------------------

A CSCS certification is considered the most difficult to get. If you ever want to be a strength coach for a college team, I'd get it. ------------------

Gotcha, ACE would be just fine then, I believe it's the most common certification.

How long did it take you to study for the test? ------------------

If you're asking me, I'm the wrong guy to ask. They let Doctors take the CSCS exam no matter what their undergrad degree was. I'm sure your friends have some study materials for the ACE, look everything over once and you'll be able to tell how much studying will be required. (I've heard the ACE test is very easy though...) ------------------

I passed the ACE test on about 4 days of studying. The trick is to learn to say all the things they want to hear (eg, squatting past a 90 degree knee angle is very dangerous, etc). There is alot of legal liability stuff you need to know too. Whatever you do, don't rely on common sense during the test...the correct answers are usually the most conservative ones.

Hey DOCJ, I am an undergraduate in kinesiology and I want to personnal train and maybe be a strength coach. I am also going to get my master's .........should I get certified by the CSCS???? Thanks bro The Juggernaut

It can't hurt, it's one of the main things colleges look for when hiring strength coaches. (in my experience) ------------------

I'm also looking into getting certified... I'm leaning towards ISSA. It better be good, i'm still looking around though.

I think the ISSA is a take-at-home deal. Their material has alot of Fred Hatfield stuff with good info.

I have NASM, ISSA. The NASM is probably the best one.

As a professional personal trainer and an experienced bodybuilder who will be doing the Nationals next year as I have already qualified, I can honestly say that CORFIT has the best personal training program. I am certified by them but to resolve biased, I am also certified by AFAA and originally ACE. Where they are all good programs, CORFIT is more of a one-on-one hands on program as opposed to 500 students sitting in an auditorium watching an instructor. It should be noted that I also have a Bachelors Degree in ergophysiology and a Masters in Education. I have nothing to gain by sharing this with you, but feel free to email me for more info at [email protected]

If you get certified does that mean you can relocate to another state or do you have to do it all over again? Reason why is because I may go work for my ------------------ BROS BEFORE HO'S

Those that are ACE certified, what do you recommend; to take the 16 hour class or just order the books and study on your own? |
