I read an article on Mesomorphosis.com last night, this guy asked if there was anything to get rid of his acne due to AS use. He answered by saying that if you take the perscription drug Accutane (isotretinoine) for 2-3 months @ 40-80mg/day, you will have not have any breakout ever again.

Be carefull though. Acutane is hard on the system. That + AS = be carefull.

Its not that bad for you physically although they are beginning to link it to depression. I take 40mg/day and it works unbelievable-no breakouts anywhere. ------------------

that is false. i have used accutane in the past. yes, it helped a helluva lot, and i didn't break out for probably after a year off the stuff. but it isn't a cure for acne. i still have small breakouts every once in a while. i have a topical stuff now that is the same compound as accutane but like i said, it's topical. it's called Avita. it works pretty good too. accutane makes you break out hella bad when you first start taking it, but that's the price you pay to get clear skin.

wesdog, you are wrong. it is a cure for acne. some may need a second treatment like yourself. some people cannot handle it. that shit was harsh on me! i couldnt even go out in the sun for 10 mins without getting sunburned. but it did work wonders. and you need a script for it. -MIKE-001 ------------------

So is it pretty standard to break out pretty heavily when you first start taking it? How long does that typically last for before clearing up for good?

It is a cure for 'most' people with the emphasis laying on most. For those who are prone to acne then in most cases it is a permanent solution unless they continue to play around with substances that will alter hormonal balance. If you are prone to acne and continue to use steroids then there is a good chance you will get an out break. Just because something works for someone doesnt mean it will work for everyone. Everyones body structure is different.

Shit can be very hard on your system. You cannot go out in the sun without protection. It is a mega dose of vitamin A, which is a fat soluable vitamin. It can build up in your system and become toxic. I tried to kill myself when I was on it, and I am a very even tempered person not prone to being depressed. I was also in a wheel chair for a month while the stuff got out of my system. It cause severe joint pain in my knees and I couldn't walk. Sure, it cured my acne.....but I'm not sure to this day if it was worth it. ------------------

damn ultimaincubus thats some severe sides bro. Its not a cure, especially if you use AS. I have taken accutane TWICE in the past and started messing around with andro and prohormones and it always came back regardless. Now I'm using AS and I find if I use B5, I can keep my acne under control.

I guess everybody is different, but I can tell you that it worked great for me. I took it for three months, two pills a day and now I barely breakout. It did make it worse at first, I think for the first couple weeks if I remember right. But since then it's been great. Mike is right though..BE CAREFUL in the sun..It makes your skin very sensitive, especially to sunlight.

The thing about accutane is that acne will come back if you are altering your hormonal levels but not as severely as before. Also say you do six months of accutane at 60mg/day-usually one 20mg pill in the morning and two at night-after that if breakouts occur say a year later which is the earliest I've ever heard of you can hit it real hard for a short period of time depending on how much you weigh-I did 100mg/day for six weeks and I have been through two cycles(winstrol, sos) which usually are big acne causers without a mark. The sun issue is for real-i went to the beach last summer with spf 25 on and 1 hour into my face felt like it was going to explode-that also gets better with time too in my experience-light to moderate tanning will help before you go out in the sun because of the lack of uv rays-also never take in excess vitamin A-it is extremely toxic and very dangerous-my experience with however was extremely positive and I will continue to use-its like any other drug-you just can't abuse it-sound familiar bros. ------------------

Strictly speaking, accutane is not a cure for acne (there is no cure). Acne occurs due to excess oils in the skin which (when mixed with dead skin cells) clog your pores. Acutane works by temporarily reducing the oils in the skin and allows the skin to clear and heal. A 5 month course of accutane therapy can often keep people clear for 2 years or more. It's not so much that accutane is a cure, it's that most people take it in their late teens (when hormonal changes cause excessive oil) and by the time they finish the therapy the body has completed the hormone changes and has returned to a normal state (i.e. the body stops producing excessive oil). Accutane is best for those with severe acne because it keeps them clear and prevents scarring. Scarring is the really bad part of severe acne because although the acne may eventually pass, scarring is basically forever. Some doctors have noted that in some patients the reduction of oil production caused by accutane becomes permanent and thats why the acne does not return - but the jury is still out on this. As an adult acne sufferer I can tell you accutane has been terrific for more and has done a lot more than any topical. One year later I am still clear. Although I do get the rare occassional pimple (like the kids with perfect skin on the annoying clearasil commercials) it's not as bad as it used to be and a mild topical dries it up almost overnight. There are some possible serious side effects to accutane (tough on the liver, elevated cholestoral, some blurring of night vision, pregnant women cannot take it) but these side effects are the extreme and generally rare. No disrespect to Ultimaincubus, but most people do not experience what he has gone through. I am sorry that he had a bad experience with it but for most (myself included) it is a wonder drug. During therapy a doctor will take monthly blood tests to monitor liver function and so forth and its important to talk with your doctor about how you are feeling while on therapy. Rather than depressed, most people are elated because their acne (which causes severe emotional distress) is clearing. I cannot say what would happen if you mix accutane with any kind of juice. But overall, if you are suffering from severe acne, topicals aren't helping (and to prevent permanent scarring) I would seek out a dermatologist. Best decision I ever made. P.S. Sorry for the long post.

couldn't agree more-also now is the time guys -it is much easier to find a doctor who will prescribe it than it was three years ago-justtell him that you have always had this problem ever since you were a kid and you like to not have acne as an adult-most will sympathize-also most doctors require you get blood tests done monthly to monitor cholesterol and liver functions-which can never hurt any of us. ------------------

I use a topical antibiotic solution called Dalacin T, twice a day. It limits my breakouts to one spot a week on average. I have had acne since I was 12 and am now 26, oh I'm female too. My acne was real bad in my teens but my parents just told me it was nothing and would go away soon. I wish I had got medical help then. I had such a miserable time, I wasn't bad enough for Roaccutane but nearly. I got to the age of 25 and thought, "enough is enough" and went to my Dr. I have never looked back since. I am 4 weeks into my first winny cycle and have no extra skin problems. I know winny is quite gentle but I am assuming this lotion is controlling any skin sides.

I am on my 6th month of accutane. Acne has completely cleared. However for the last 2 months I have been feeling depressed. I dont know why Im getting these feelings but an excuse is turning 23 years old & feeling that I am too old.
