does anyone here take an occasional week off training? (not diet just training) i've heard different people say, some on this board, that taking a week off every few months is a good idea, but i'm not sure how helpful it would be...can't really see myself taking a week off, but if it's beneficial then.... ------------------

I agree w/hooch. Your body NEEDS an occasional week off to recover. I'm like you. I couldn't see myself taking week off until I was forced to do so. I felt 100% better the next week and had the best workouts of my life. Although you may hate to do it, it could be very beneficial to you.

It depends on your workout strategy. If you train intensely and hit a body part once a week you already have a good comprehension of what you are doing. You should be able to train "instinctively" and will feel the onset of overtraining. It is at this point that you lay back. It is easier to overtrain your whole body system as opposed to an isolated muscle group. Yet it is possible to controllably overtrain a group to bring up lagging body parts. On occasion I have blitzed my forearms daily for a week at a time. Then taken a week off from forearms only. Keep the nutrition template correct and strict. I have seen visible growth by the end of the off week as they heal. As another example, I know of a guy who really wants to improve his flat bench. He tends to train chest 3 times a week and doesn't know why his weights don't increase. I look at him and think, "Good Lord, you've been beating your pecs to shit for months on end! Take a month off for pecs and watch them grow almost daily!" He won't listen but that is beside the point. Point is, you have to read your body as you go along. Once you know the signs it is easy to use system reactions to your advantage. Don't feel like a pussy for taking time off. Do as you know you need to, not as what others expect of you.

Absolutely. Every 8-12 weeks. Depending on how I feel I will rest for a full week. I know my body and when I'm overtrained and if I feel it I will rest my body. It's only benificial. It will help with future progress. If you're over trained you won;t grow. I never go more than 12 weeks without a week off. That being said my wee off starts tomorow...It feels good already.

1-2 weeks off is great. Do it after the cycle (or every few months). ------------------ Great Information on Injections and Syringes

YES taking a week off is good for you. Resting is one of the major keys of getting big. After I take a week off, I come back stronger than ever.

Just started my week off today. It is much needed. I'm at the point where I have no passion for training and my body feels batered - joints are bugging me. This week will be just what I need. Then come back into it nice and easy and work my way up - then take another week off.

I don't have a problem taking time off as long as I am doing some sort of physical activity every few days (pick-up b-ball, hitting the slopes, etc). The only time I lost muscle taking 1-2 weeks off was during finals where I was in the library all day.

The longer you've been training and the older you are, the more frequently you should take a week off. I have gotten to the point when I can gauge from the level of joint discomfort and lack of progress when it's time to take some time off. In every case, I have come back stronger. It is also worth noting that a week off also gives your mind a chance to rest. One returns with renewed focus and dedication.

I'm going to have to disagree with a couple of the replies, I don't think that it is a good Idea to take a week of after a cycle. I think that is the worst time to take a week off. That time is necessary to help solidify your gains, I think the only time you should take a week off is directly prior to your cycle. This way you will be fresh to hit it hard. It is difficult enough keeping your confidence coming off a cycle without going a week without lifting
