As far as name-brand medications go, it is average in price. You never experience high drug prices with other meds because your insurance company picks up the tab.

typically very new rugs are quite expensive as well, also this is somewhat meant to be used for treatment of breast cancer, and any cancer treatment is sort of "allowed" to cost more (its tolerated more actually).

it is because pharmaceutical companies butt fuck the world's populace everyday. You think that some of these "uncurable" diseases and shit are really as much of an enigma as they are made out to be? If these companies went around curing everything, they would put themselves out of business. Only when things show signs of having a serious threat (ex. Polio) are things cured. There is more money in treatment than there is in cure. It is not good practice to get rid of your gravy train, which in there case is sickness. Sorry i went off on a rant, i'm a little pissed off about gear prices, as are most people.

Arimedex is not an anti-estrogen. It is an aromatase inhibitor(which means it prevents test from converting into estrogen)! Nolv. works by fighting for the same receptors site as estrogen. Which would u rather have? Some thing that totally stops estrogen from formig or something that takes up the same receptors and that might not work for everyone?

Marxx, u r rite. Not even a combo of Proviron,Nolva, clomids, cytadren can beat the Arimidex, with the exception of Teslac.

I think that based on what Arimidex does it should be considered an Anti Estrogen. I don't mean to split hairs but if not Arimidex then what is considered an anti E?

Here's some info off the Arimidex site:

HOW DOES ARIMIDEX WORK?

ARIMIDEX belongs to a group of medicines called aromatase inhibitors. Aromatase inhibitors work by blocking aromatase, an enzyme needed to make estrogen in postmenopausal women. Estrogens may cause the growth of some types of breast tumors.

Your doctor may test you to see if your tumor is hormone (estrogen or progesterone) receptor positive or hormone (estrogen or progesterone) receptor negative. Women who test positive receive the greatest benefit from ARIMIDEX. Treatment with ARIMIDEX lowers circulating estrogen levels, which may help decrease tumor size or slow the progress of tumor growth. Click here for a visual demonstration.

WHO SHOULD NOT TAKE ARIMIDEX?

You should not take ARIMIDEX if you are pregnant because it can cause fetal harm.

The safety and effectiveness of ARIMIDEX in pediatric patients have not been established. Therefore, use in children is not recommended.

HOW SHOULD I TAKE ARIMIDEX?

The dose of ARIMIDEX is one 1-mg tablet taken once a day at about the same time each day. You can take ARIMIDEX with or without food, but taking your medication with food or milk may help prevent any nausea you might experience with ARIMIDEX. While you are taking ARIMIDEX, your doctor will be monitoring your response to treatment.

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not double the daily dosejust return to your regular schedule.

ARE THERE OTHER IMPORTANT FACTORS TO CONSIDER BEFORE TAKING ARIMIDEX?

Most drugs may be taken in addition to ARIMIDEX without the concern of drug interactions. However, check with your doctor before changing medications or taking other new medications.
WHAT SHOULD I DO WHILE TAKING ARIMIDEX?

If you see a health care professional who is new to you (an emergency room doctor, another doctor in the practice), tell him or her that you take ARIMIDEX.
Continue to see your doctor regularly. ARIMIDEX should be given under the supervision of a qualified physician experienced in the use of agents like ARIMIDEX.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF ARIMIDEX?

The common side effects seen with ARIMIDEX in clinical trials versus tamoxifen include hot flushes (26.5% vs 23.1%), nausea (18.6% vs 20.7%), decreased energy and weakness (16.4% vs 15.9%), pain (13.8% vs 14.3%), back pain (11.9% vs 13.3%), bone pain (10.7% vs 10.2%), and increased cough (10.9% vs 10.2%). Joint pain/stiffness has been reported in association with the use of ARIMIDEX.

This summary does not include all possible side effects with ARIMIDEX. It is important to talk to your health care professional about possible side effects. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to give you the professional labeling. Click here for the full prescribing information for ARIMIDEX.

Keep ARIMIDEX in its original prescription container and out of the reach of children.

Do not take your tablets after the expiration date on the container. Be sure that any discarded tablets are out of the reach of children.

This provides you with a summary of information about ARIMIDEX. Medicines are sometimes prescribed for uses other than those listed. ARIMIDEX has been prescribed specifically for you by your doctor. Do not give your medicine to anyone else, even if they have a similar condition, because it may harm them.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Your pharmacist also has a longer description of ARIMIDEX written for health care professionals that you can ask to read. For more information about ARIMIDEX or breast cancer, call 1-800-34-LIFE-4.

ARIMIDEX is a registered trademark of the AstraZeneca group of companies.

In short, you are paying for the years of testing and research as well as the cost of materials and manufacturing to actually produce the drug.

The biggest reason Arimidex is so expensive: only one company makes it -- AstraZeneca. They have a patent on the manufacturing process for the first several years the drug is on the market.
