I dont know what to do about this problem anymore. I do cardio 30 minutes, 4 times a week, and I lift three times. I follow a good diet eating 5 small meals a day and no carbs after 3. With all of this, my flbby chest and love handles which have been with me since i was 12 will not go away. i have a minimal amt of body fat everywhere else on my body. and with spring break approching, id appreciate any suggestions on what to do or take to finally see what a six pack would look like on me.........thanks bros

Primarily what you do is eat 80% fat, 20% protien, no carbs (I also have cals stay under BMR) until you are in a ketosis. You can use a ketostik to see if you are.

Once in ketosis, you can lower the fat percentage, and raise the protein. The exact percentage to raise is very personal, use the ketosticks to check to make sure you still are in ketosis.

Your musles will feel flat because if the loss of glycogen and water while in ketosis, but I understand the ketones preserve muscles and prevent a catabolic state.

Here's Georges take on the subject.

Also, there is a very good book called Bodyopus by Dan Duchain, and the Ketogenic Diet by Lyle McDonald.

I've followed the keto about 5 years ago and got the most ripped I had every been. You really get sick of the diet though. I was eating a half pound of bacon for breakfast with 4 scrambled eggs. Lots of ground beef, sausage, mixing whey protein with olive oil as a shake. It was simply disgusting eating that way. I'm not the most creative with coming up with meals and I was on military pay so I couldn't exactly afford a nice cut of steak.

I just read the mewsletter on the keto diet....sounds like good fun.....i was wondering how long it is safe to stay on this diet, also will the fat that you lost return if you get off of the keto diet and fall back into a more conventional diet, like a high protein diet?

I am relatively new on here - but THIS i can comment on knowingly.

I can relate. This is a body type which I have had in the past, I dont think its as much that my chest was flabby and had a roll of fat around my mid section - just had no definition. I think the thing is that my legs has always been big (muscularly) in proportion to the rest of me. So, for a given overall condition, my chest would appear out-of-shape. Same with upper arms too (maybe not as bad as you say, but it was there).

What al of these guys are referring to is the Ketogenic Diet - aka the Atkins Diet. There is SO much misinformation on this diet - even a lot of what I have read on this board is wrong. They key is that for a while, you eat like NO carbs NONE. By that I mean less than 20 G per day (and you wont believe how quickly that adds up). This puts you through a mild hell for a few days until your body gets into a state called "Ketosis" - where your body is actively metabolizing fat for fuel. ONCE you are IN ketosis, its actually easier to deal with. GETTING there is tough, You go through a period where you are about ready to kill someone for like an Apple. Your body is SCREAMING for fuel - I had a mild headache. Then your body goes "oh, wait... uh ..... I'll shift over to burning fat". And its gets easier.

Then you stay in that state. Staying there, you can raise the level of carbs a BIT a day - maybe like to 30-40G max. Thats it. If your body see enough carbs around - it goes "oh COOOLLLLL I know what to do" - and it start burning carbs again. Then when you try to get back into ketosis - you have to go through the discomfort again.

But if you stay in Ketosis the fat will melt away. There are test strips that you can piss on which will verify the fact that you are in that state (although they are not very reliable).

Working out while in that state is NOT easy. In fact, its tough. Its one thing to just live in that state, but vigorous workouts are tough. Aerobics (low intensity) are probably OK. But dont try any squats!

This may be a good course for you just get on that diet and melt off a lot of the fat. Getting rid of it is much harder than keeping it off if you are an active person. I would take like 2-3 months, and just do that diet and some mild cardio. Maybe some light weights (trust me you wont want o do much else). You will eat like a damned pig. Bacon. Eggs. Sausage. Hamburgers get this .. I used to go to Wendys and get 2 double cheeseburgers, and get rid of the buns (thats right NO BUNS - scrape it ALL off - every last speck) and that was lunch! And fat was melting off!

But if I so much as had ONE muffin, or one sugar packet, or one Pepsi BAM I blew it. Out of ketosis.

(There is a school if thought that says you can be in ketosis, and then like ingest some small amount of carbs right before a workout the theory being that you will burn all of those carbs in the workout session. I never found that to work for me.

I have seen dramatic results on Keto-based diets. And have read many sources on the subject. The best for the lay person is to just go get Atkins book.

Also, the newsgroup: alt.support.diet.low-carb is good. But seriously, spend the 5 bucks or whatever and get the book. Actually, I would recommend the book on tape too.

There was an ad in the latest issue of Muscle Fitness for a trans dermal cutting gel. You might get the issue and check it out. Has a money back guarantee.

Will only work on fatty deposits just below the skin. But that sounds like your problem.

You ever consider doing a 5/6 day week program. I have the same body type. I do cardio 6 times a week, as well as lifting. In the past two weeks I've lost a lot of weight. about 8-9 lbs. Well, I guess that could be from the DNP but who am I to say! DNP is the shit bro.

Started at 300mg/day for 3 days, went up to 600 for 3 days, and I'm at day8 and I am finishing at 300 for the last two days. I've lost about 8lbs, and there should be some water coming off after that too. Will start up again in a week or two at similar dosages. I was 238, I'm now 229.

I am on my second cycle, day 5 of 700mg per day. Seems high but I'm using every trick in the book to keep the sides down and it's working. I lost 10 pounds using 500mg per day in 7 days. One week later I was still down 10 pounds so I decided to do another cycle but I upped the ante.
