2 things - (a) No encryption is unbreakable I don't use PGP, too much hassle. I stick with ziplip/hushmail. ------------------

I also use hush, zip and opera... but I was looking for something stronger and safer (which I assume pgp is)in light of recent problems around this board....I know PGP can be broken..but I thought it would not be worth the effort unless the information in the message was extremely valuable.... please correct me if Im wrong

Sure they can all be broken, but it's not really worth the trouble. The bonus with hush/zip is that the message never leaves the server. You write mail on your comp, it goes encrypted to hush's server and then goes to the other person without leaving the server. With PGP you're using standard SMTP/POP email so it's easier to intercept. It goes encrypted from your comp to your mail server then to god-knows-how-many other servers before it finally reaches its destination.

quote: I too would have to say this is mathematically infeasable. To decrypt a 1024 bit encryption using brute force with today's technology would take 4 times the age of the universe... Except 27 years ago we said we'd never be able to multiply a 100 digit number by another 100 digit number... For the short term, I'd say PGP is solid. Their seed is based on the timing of your keystrokes as you enter your key...I'd really like to see a program that can break PGP. Pubert |
