I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with the Hi-Lo Carb diet from Bill Phillips' ARG? I'm starting my Primo-Winny-T4-Clen-ECA cutting cycle tomorrow, and I have to admit, it sounds intriguing. For those of you not familiar with it, this is the basic outline:

Day 1 - Mod Carbs, Mod Protein, Low Fat
Day 2 - Low Carbs, High Protein, Low Fat
Day 3 - " " "
Day 4 - High Carbs, Mod Protein, Low Fat
(repeat)

Phillips claims that you can shed up to 1 lb of fat every 4-day cycle, and maintain or possible gain a little muscle mass. He goes on to say that AS are unecessary during this diet, but some "low dose Deca or Primo" might be useful. Well, I'm going with 400mg/week Primo and 50mg/day Winny (not exactly low dose), although my primary goal is fat loss (I'm at a disgusting 22%). Have any of you tried this type of diet? How did it work out? Thanks for your feedback.

Please answer the question objectively. I know a lot of you don't like Phillips, but from an unbias point of view, what do you think about the diet? Thanks.

Phillips is surprisingly correct in this instance. If you burn more calories than you put in during the low carb days, raise cals to maintenance or above during the high carb days...you can actually help your body produce a phenomenal hormone called leptin which does all kinds of neat tricks to trickle in other hormones among keeping your metabolism in check, which is something dieters can use towards the end of their diet when their metabolism is sluggish.

Do you have or know somebody who has had personal experience with this diet while using AS? Check out my cycle above and please tell my what you think the best way would be for me to incorporate this Hi-Lo Carb diet into my plan. Thanks a lot.

I have just started to use a similar protocol and so far the fat loss is excellent. It's nothing compared to using DNP with a high protein, low fat, low carb diet..but this is really REALLY awesome. Even low carb guru's like Elzi Volk and Lyle McDonald at misc.fitness. which I surmise they are using...where they are going through periodic 'refeeds'.

I did that exact diet while on a cutting cycle. I was taking primo, halo, T3, winny, and dbol. I had excellent results and when I cut again, I will definately do that diet. But I don't think that diet was developed by Bill Phillips from EAS, I got it from an anabolic steroid book written by some Phillips guy but not the one that owns musclemedia.

The book you are referring to is the "Anabolic Reference Guide" by William Nathaniel Phillips... William as in Bill... the same guy that owns EAS now... the same guy that ownED Muscle Media until this past year. Check out the last page in the book where there's a shot of him posing at age 18. I know it's kind of hard to believe considering he's so "anti-steroids" now, but back in the day, he was actually considered one of the authorities on the subject.

Also Bigtbone, since you've used this type of diet before for cutting, I was hoping you could answer a couple questions for me. How long did you do this for? How much FAT did you lose? Did you gain muscle and if so, how much? What about cardio and weight training... what was your schedule like? My goals are to lose fat (a lot-I'm at 22%) and gain some defined muscle, if that's possible. Any advice? Thanks a lot.

Day 1 - Mod Carbs: 1.5g/lb of BW
Mod Protein: 1g/lb of BW
Low Fat: .25g/lb of BW
Day 2 - Low Carbs: .5g/lb of BW
High Protein: 1.5g/lb of BW
Low Fat: .25g/lb of BW
Day 3 - (same as Day 2)
Day 4 - High Carbs: 2g/lb of BW
Mod Protein: 1g/lb of BW
Low Fat: .25g/lb of BW

That's how he outlines it in the book... he doesn't give %s.

Hey Cuts! I repeated the 4 day cycle for around 8 weeks or so. I went from approx. 210 lbs @ 13-15% bodyfat to 200 lbs @ near 3% bodyfat. So I gained around 10-12 lbs lean mass while losing around 20 lbs of fat. These are approximate figures as this cycle was almost a year ago and I can't remember exactly. I trained with weights 5-6 days a week depending on how I felt and I only did cardio about twice a week.

Also I didn't begin with the recommended amount of calories; I increased them and over time I reduced it to where he recommends. For example, and remember I'm approximating here, I would begin with 15-20% more calories than he recommends. I took the 1.5 g of carbs/lb of bodyweight and increased it 15% to 1.725 g of carbs/lb of bodyweight, and likewise for protein and fat for each of the four days. Then as the weeks passed I slowly dropped it down to the original amount recommended. Worked great for me! If you have any more questions then email me.
Good luck

Hey Bigtbone, thanks for the useful info. You left out something important though... what AS and cutting agents were you on? Take a look at my cycle (at the top) and give me your opinion. Thanks a lot!
