Hey y'all this is my first post. Congrats on a great site, its nice to have a board like this to get info. from peeps who are interested in lifting and fitness. Heres my deal: I'm a 19 year college student. I started lifting back when i was a freshman in high school for football. Nothing too serious, but like 3 times a week and i tried to work most of my body everyday. About a year and a half ago, i decided to take it more serious. Right now i am 5'9" and i weigh about 172 lbs. My problem is that i just don't gain muscle too fast. I have been through several different types of workout schedules and i seem to respond best to working out about 5 times a week and doing my whole body in that 5 day period. I lift pretty hard, never been a slacker about that kind of stuff. I usually do about 4-5 exercises per body part and about 15-20 sets total. I try to eat a good amount of protein per day, at least 1 gram per lb of body weight. I take about 1-2 protein shakes per day. And i also like to use glutamine. I am not really interested in taking any steroids, beacuse i feel i am still too young for that kind of stuff and i really wouldn't know any good reliable sources around here for it anyway. My goals are i'd like to shed about 5-8 lbs. of unwanted fat and get up too about 180-185 lbs of pretty hard ripped muscle. Anyways what i wanted know if any of you all have any good advice from experience in order to help me with this. Whats your favorite mass building exercises? What types of diet do y'all eat? How much running to do? What supplements you have had success with?Stuff like this I'd really appreciate any help, thanks y'all

Well, I'm glad that you don't want to juice. Wait a couple more years for that, then go for it. Other than that, I like to cycle my protein. I go through period of stuffing myself, and periods of just eating when I'm hungry. I would also recommend that you do less sets. I think that 15-20 sets is too many. I do about 10 sets for big muscles (including warm up sets), and about 6-8 sets for small muscles. I'm am always gaining even when not on roids, just not as quickly. Give it time. You'll gain a lot of mass naturally in the next four years.

First off, welcome to the board. When I'm going for mass I lift heavy with low reps. Use compond excercises, top 3 in my opinion. 1. Deadlift Also, when I'm trying to bulk up I don't do any cardio, unless I start to gain a great deal of excess fat. Good luck. ------------------

Blacksburg eh? Must be a hokie.. Hows things going at Sharkies these days?? This is anabolic board, so most of the people who post here are talking about roids.. There are some natural bros around here, so dont let the gear heads scare you off.. there are other boards besides this one "the anabolic" one here at elite fitness.. check them out, they have plenty people willing to help. here is the path to the training discussion board.. also elite fitness have a great search function (and database), since you are a hokie, Im sure you are well versed with PC's and the web, and search funcitons... here is the path to the Training board, paste the entire URL in the browser bar, and you are good to go. enjoy...

Eat 5000-6000 cals per day with 2 times your body weight in protein....That should do it.

Pheind and Pitbull hit the nail on the head. I strongly believe that most people over train. I have about the same set scheme as feind and rep wise 4-8 on most exercises... ------------------

If your trying to put on size, then you better quit running. Just walk for about 30 minutes per day if you're trying to drop a little fat. ------------------ |
