It's the best FAT loss diet I have found to work for me. The NO/low carb days are fairly easy, the weekend carb up is a bit difficult to do by the book since you have to eat every 2 hours even while sleeping. I went from 13.5%bf to 8.5%bf in just under 2 months and was still able to gain 4 pounds, that was without juice. I'm gonna do it again with my next cutting cycle in about 2 months and see if I can gain more than 4lbs. and still cut down bf. Hope this helps, if you need any help shoot me an e-mail. DOBB

i am exactly the opposite opinion, dreams. i tried it for a precontest diet in 1999 and looked like total shit onstage. it's really variable from person to person with this particular diet. as for me, never again! PA

Dan's book is an incredible work, and really open the door to serious consideration of the cycle ketogenic dieting. However, when you finish that book, there is a book by Lyle McDonald called "The Ketogenic Diet" which picks up right where Dan left off. It also has more information based upon scientific evidence, and years of real-world usage of Dan's findings in the field. Several of Dan's assumptions were shown to be, well. ... areas which could be improved upon. GFor example, Dan's obsession of eating specifc types of carbs and such at specific times throught the weekend was found to not be such an important factor. Also, later finding have shown that the basic adavatange of a cyclic ketogenic diet in allowing you to keep as much muscle as possible while getting rid of fat. In general, keto diets allow you to be at a level of less-than-maintenance Cals, and lose LESS mucsle than on an equivalent balanced diet. However, you still must be be mindful of calories to some extent. Too many, you wont drop fat. Too few, and you will drop muscle. Keep yourself at a mild level of Cal below maintenencae, and you will lose fat (and on Keto diet, lose less muscle during that time). Cycleing Keto diets just allow you to lose even LESS muscle. I'll tell ya what though, doing a cycling keot diet is a trip. There are few feelings like being like TOTALLY carb depleted at the end of the week, and coming home and SLAMMING carbs into you - I used to drink something with almost 100% Gluc-type carbs. And I could sit there and FEEL it going through me - what a rush,

I've used it with very good results .. when I was in the carb depleted stage my muscles felt flat since all the water and glycogen are gone. (so I imagine it's not that good for contests?), but I got pretty good pumps during the carb up stage. .. this was the diet I started with. I had a 40 inch waist, 200 pounds, 5'8" and I went to 32 inch waist, 165 pounds at my thinnest.

Pharm-For a contest I would say you would probably want to carb load for AT LEAST 3-4 days so you don't look so flat and definitely eliminate fluids for about 48 hours. However, I would have to say that there are better precontest diets out there, but for pure fat loss Bodyopus (or a keto diet similar) is the shit. I did the recarb both by the book and just eating any type of clean carbs and I didn't notice much difference so I think it's not necessary to eat every 2 hours but it's definitely important to eat mostly complex carbs or you will begin to gain fat. Also, supplementing with vanadyl, chromium, magnesium, and an ECA is a big help. Like I said I will be doing it again with my cutting cycle in a couple months so I will keep you posted. DOBB

Real briefly, you eat 90% of maintenance calories:70% fat,30% protein, as close to zero carbs as possible, for 5 days. Dan recommends beginning at 6pm on Sunday and to beginning carb loading after the depletion workout on friday afternoon. Beginning right after the depletion workout you eat carbs every 2 hours even while sleeping, I don't really think it's that important to eat every two hours as long as you take in ENOUGH CLEAN carbs. He tells you in the book what type of carbs he recommends at each of the meals, as far as simple sugars and complex carbs. You do this for 48 hours, until around 6pm depending when you finish your depletion workout. That's about it.
