Do you think that you can become diabetic from using insulin for long term periods?

Your body more redially accepts artificial insulin than its own. Your insulin receptors actually have an affinity to Humilin.
Also, your pancreas has feedback receptors that tell it when adequate insulin is in the bloodstream. When there's plenty, the pancrease doesn't produce any. It could theroretically receive damage due to inactivity (the "don't use it and you loose it phenomenon").
So yes, it is highly possible considering these two factors.

Somebody has already explained the theory as to why it is possible to become dependent... I can tell you that 'gestational diabetics' definitley can become Insulin dependent; there is every reason therefore to believe that the same is true for anyone using Insulin.

Ok, lets put it this way: Im going to use GH for probably 4-5 months starting in May. Now, i don't want to do Slin as of now, but i want someone to convince me its not that bad. If I were to take 10iu's in the morning, and 10iu's at night after workouts, would this be so much to where i would become diabetic? I would do it to the maximum as far as taking precautions, and would do it RIGHT. I workout 4 times a week, so i would only use slin 4 times. What do you think? I need suggestions guys.

No.1 If I'm not mistaken, Gestional Diabetes occurs in pregnant women...???

No. 2 Consume 10 grams of carbs per IU of slin.

No. 3 I'm a diabetic, and yes...long term use could in fact cause damage....what happens to your nuts on a long cycle of Test??? If you continued to use test for extended periods of time, could damage occur?? Yup...

On a side note....A recent finding amoung young children who's family has diabetes in their family were given small injections of slin everyday to ease the burden of the pancreas, which was not producing enough....it said it could prolong their Slin dependency for several years....

You most certainly can become insulin dependent after long term use. Try taking T3 for long amounts of time and see whether or not your thyroid function is impaired. Like Ranger said, go on test for a couple of years and see what happens to your normal test levels.

I've used insulin for years. In 1998 I used all year @doses not less than 50ius.

I'm not diabetic.Had to up doses though but after a break I can make progress with smaller doses again.

Insulin is a fantansic hormone.By far my favorite. It works the best for me @ doses 40 to 50 iu's.

But watch out for the distended gut.Alot of people think it is from HGH but it's from the testesterone and large doses of insulin.
Well in my case anyway since i've never used HGH.

Thanks for the personal experiences guys, I feel better now.
I always thought the gut was from GH because it caused your internal organs to grow larger...?

Ranger, that made perfect sense. Thanks for that post. I do understand that long term effects on more then likely, any drug, cannot be good.
And Jdabull, i may use slin after all, but i need to research a little more and read up on it as much as i can. I won't jump into anything unless i know what im putting into my body. But yeah, im not as worried anymore about using it.

To Ranger.

Gestational does occur in pregnent women, in very rare occasions they have to use insulin, this can lead to a life long dependence on insulin due to fact that the body can not readily restart production of indigenous insulin.

In body builders I have every reason to suspect that the dsame can happen. If the body has a high enough level of any hormone, it will not produce it's own. Take for example depleted Test levels after a cycle. This is why we use things to try and restart natural production. Unfortuantly, as you are no doubt aware a deficiet of Insulin, even for a short time, can have nasty (even fatal) consequences.
