For those insulin users out there, which version would you use. I understand that Humalog is a lot faster acting(a good thing, no?) but I hear a lot of guys using Humalin. Which do you use and why?

i use humalog because it faster acting and its easier to time your carbs and less chance of going into a hypoglycemic state and plus my roommate is diabetic so gets it for me for free. Most poeple would choose humalog but they have to use humulin because you must have a script to purchuse humalog!

guys i'm insulin dependant (15 years) and i'd have to say that doing anything other than humalog is a waste of money. humulin takes longer to work than human insulin, so why bother? your body will just crank out insulin since the regular isn't taking effect, thereby pretty much wasting that injection.

here's a pretty chart to keep you all occupied: http://www.lillydiabetes.com/Products/TimeActivityProfiles.cfm

Thanks lads. Chuke, what you say is interesting, but I'm a little confused. If that's true then why do they even manufacture it?

1) it's all we had until humalog came around. (within the last ten years.)

2) the reason why there are insulins with different peak times is so diabetics can take less injections and have a supply of insulin in your body at all times. so if you take regular and NPH, you can count on a peak in 2-3 hours and NPH to help level you out for the next 12-16 hours. (carbs raise your BG [blood glucose] quickly, where fats and proteins take a longer period of time to have that effect.)

Choke said that like humulin isn't for humans...PLEASE!!! Most of us here would have to choose Humulin...WHY???because thats all we can get. Humalog is prescription only. Humulin works perfectly. You really dont have to worry about hypogylcemia either. If you know what your doing, Humulin works great. Its cheap and readily available.

Flexxy, what kind of results did you have with the Humulin? Since you've tried both, do you have a preference for one over the other?
