pop3, sendmail(8), imap and nearly all other common protocols used to transmit e-mail is not very secure and is transmitted in clear text. All webmail (hotmail, yahoo etc) is transmitted clear text as well. Unless you decided to use a homebrew PKI, freeware such as pgp or a rhijndal hack, do not transmit anything incriminating. You can always use hushmail, ziplip or EF's secure mail. Blowfish has yet to be cracked by sources outside of blowfish or O'reiley. So in theory, you could use one of these services, although the host providing the service is obligated by law to hand over public/private keys and all logs in the event of a subpoena. | ||
