I would like to hear what you do and what you think of it as far as the strengths and weaknesses of it, be honest . I do mixed martial arts with Jujitsu as the main focus an diot is incredible, I have only been doing it for 3 months and I will be fighting my first live no holds barred fight soon. I'm hooked and think Jujitsu is the king. Opinions please? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've tried a few disciplines and I like Ju-Jitsu. Hapkido is interesting also. I was also one of those Tae-Kwon-Do kids when I was very young. I think that for martial arts to make a real difference in a fight, you have to have been very dedicated and at it for awhile. Our individual reactions that take place in a real confrontation are all based on instinct and previous experience. If you've been practicing any of the disciplines for some time, those reactions and instincts can start to take on the the form of that which you practice. Practice makes perfect. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I was into Hapkido for a while, took some generic self-defense courses and studied a few others (TKD, shotokan, kickboxing) for a while. I even tried Aikido and Aikijujitsu a little bit, but the instructor leaned heavily to ground fighting techniques, and he seemed quite pissed when I told him I felt that grappling was useless in a real confrontation simply based on the fact that while you have this guy in the pretzel hold, 3 of his buddies are kicking you in the back of the head. As far as competition goes, grappling gives the fighter an excellent advantage...but it doesn't play in well in the real world...of course, neither do the high flying jumping spinning cartwheel kick shit they teach you in TKD!!! I take a mixed martial arts class. It's Jujitsu and kickboxing. I think it is the most well rounded I have ever taken. And I think that is key. I think most other disiplines are pretty lame like TKD or Wushu. They look good but they lack practicality. And in defense of my class for all who take TKD or Kung Fu of some type, look who wins most of the UFC's, Pride, Vale tudo's. The wins go mostly to the MMA fighters. To be a good fighter you need good up and ground fighting skills. As far as the real world stuff, that all depends on your situation. If you HAVE to fight 4 guys I would rely on my blackbelt in track and field or my brownbelt in glock 40cal. I have never heard of a martial art that would really prepare you to kick the shit out of 3 or 4 guys. I have heard claims but never saw any proof. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I just started at a fight club here in town. The main focus is Jujitsu and cage fighting. It's fun but you have to train with someone that is good enough not to hurt you. Basically I've been getting my ass kicked. Later, Green ------------------ I GET MAD!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for almost 3 years. I also train boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai. I've been lurking on this board for like a year now. This is my first post. FYI - It may be a good idea to keep your AS use hush-hush. In the NHB community, AS is kinda viewed as cheating. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've trained BJJ for 1.5 years, with some vale tudo - a few guys at my club are doing lots of competition [NHB] in the states, but I've never done it. Speaking of AS use, my friend was at the BJJ worlds last summer - said he felt like the only one NOT using - one guy died at the tournament from something related to his shooting horse hormones ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

jarabbit I teach martial arts and have trained in too many styles to list hehe , Been in the arts since I was 4 yrs old and im 33 now. Jujitsu is very good for grappling , Its only real weakness would be on the street against more than 1 person. You never want to go to the ground if the guy has a buddy with him. Before your fight you should try to cross train with different types of fighters as much as posible. Let me know if you have any questions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I just started kickboxing about 3 months ago and I think it's badass. I've been lifting for about 5 years now, and my quads especially are quite big and strong, so I figured, for me, kickboxing would be a good choice. I'm learning to master this jump front kick to the torso/face that, when perfected, will have the potential to cause some serious damage... I'm serious, this fuckin kick will take just about any guy to the ground. On the downside, I never really stretched too much, and I'm not flexible at all! I can barely touch my toes. But, slowly, I'm working on that too, and I am seeing improvements. Maybe one day I'll be like Van Damn! Seriously though, I don't know all that much about martial arts and fighting, but I think kickboxing is a good choice since it's pretty close to real streetfighting. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hey forgotten...lmao at the brown belt in Glock 40cal!!!! I have a carry permit and go nowhere without my Glock 9mm...hell, my mom got remarried about 6 months ago and I gave her away. There I am walking down the aisle with my mom...her in a great looking dress, me in a nice tux, Glock in my front pocket!!!! Nothing like utilizing a little glock-fu to combat 3 or 4 assailants!! As far as kicking goes, I follow the Jeff Speakman theory...in a real situation, I would not try to kick any higher than the mid-drift. I don't compete, and therefore alot of the stuff they teach you in MA classes gets tossed right out of the window as far as I'm concerned. I would say that most arts have around 200 moves, total. Of those, maybe 20 have street potential. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
