Im working on getting a job at a new teen club that opened up here. I was going to go for an adult club thats nearby but after I saw most of the bouncers there I figured I might not get the job. Most of them look like they've been juicing for 5 or more years. They don't make me look small by any means but im just not up to par with them.. The bouncers in the new club are skinny as hell though so i think my chances are good... Im suppose to hear something back this week, so wish me luck!     | ||

There are too many people with no respect for life wandering the streets. They start trouble just to hurt someone. They come to bars and get drunk often and keep their 'gat' in the glove compartment just in case they need to wait for someone outside. Other than that you stare at people and hope your ear-plugs are working. | ||

Started out at door, but now am a bartender. Actually about all our bartenders are ex-bouncers, it was cool for a while, but got old fast and the money is alot better bartending. | ||

I have worked as a bouncer at several clubs and yes it does get boring, but girls are always hitting on you, asking to feel you arms/chest/etc. so you do get alot of pussy (can you say fringe benefit). Some of the fights you break up are also fun, unless they pull knives (or guns in the parking lot). Right now I work at a club in Oxnard (we denied Fernando Vargas because the club was full -- even though it wasn't -- fuck him he got his ass kicked). We usually get alot of homies in there on Fridays and I used to bang so I have had to throw down (with 2 or 3 homies at once -- usually Colonia COCH) several times by myself before anyone could come and help outIn other words it is fun at first but it does get BORING after a couple of months (that's usually when I quit and just start coming in and hitting all the hotties I had to wait till after work to hit). Try it out bro it really is fun at first. BTW I am 5'9"

Didn't have to get certified, just kind of learned as I went and worked my way up. After door, Actually started off as a barback (kept coolers full, changed kegs, served a few drinks). Good money for a smaller town in kansas. Will make anywhere from $100 to $230 a night in tips and plus $6/hour. that is a five hour shift too. Also don't let size fool you, I used to work with a bouncer who was a 6 ft 290 lb BB & about 10-12%BF. He was pretty strong but probably the biggest pussy lb for lb that worked there. i bounce at two different clubs here in charlotte. Im the security manager at one and work one night a week at the other, so im bouncing 3 to 4 nights per week. Most of what i see is the college crowd, most are pussies. I doubt you being new that you'll get to work the door, it does have its fringe benefits as long as you don't get caught. As for fun, yeh its ok sometimes and it sucks sometimes. If you say the people you are working with look like pussies, i say dont' take the job. You NEED good people around you that can back you up and handle the situations, not just hide in the corner when something breaks out. | ||

I hear ya, there was one guy I worked with who was always conveniently away from all the fights. That is one of the best things about working at a bar, I've worked at the same one for about 3 years and even when I first started people you didn't even know yet but worked with would jump right in to help you out no matter what. | ||

Been through a few clubs and I admit I'm not a great looking dude, but when you wear that security shirt, bitches throw themselves at you left and right. Hey DreamingBig, what club do you work at in Oxnard? I work in Oc but have also done the scene in LA. I worked at Malone's in Westwood, The Boogie in O.C., Geckos in O.C., and Rio in O.C. Do you work at Gotham? Anyways, I was only asking because Vargas comes into my club too. It was funny as fuck too because some bitch lifted his 100,000 dollar watch last saturday. | ||

I did the bouncing thing for a few years. Really the extra cash jsut inst worth the risk. Just never made enough in my opinion. Not to mention it gets old dealing with some customers. Chicks were a plus, but nothing like when I fell into a dj position. So much goes on behind the booth!!! Watch out if you let your girlfriend go request songs at the DJ booth alone!!! Did it a few years ago while I was studying. I found it pretty boring... the other guys seemed to treat it as a power game. I can't think of one situation where people thank you for what your doing. I would say it does'nt matter how big you are (enough poeple carried tools), it comes down to commication and talking people out of confrontation and violence. and you have to be very diplomatic. A bouncer can prevent a fight and that's what the owner of the place wants. Being a bartender can be more exciting and saver. Nowadays almost every guy as a gun and no mather how big one is, nobody stops a bullet. A bouncer is just another type of janitor. After you have dealt with enough drunks who puke on your shoes followed by you cleaning up the puke, you will understand. 2Thick is right in that it is a thankless job sometimes people go to clubs looking to fight the bouncers so they can sue the club. Very common in Chicago. | ||

you still call it bouncing in america??!! here in the u.k. those in the know prefer to use the terms doormen, door staff, door supervisor etc.... i have not worked the doors myself (not yet anyway), but some of the best doormen that i know are not big bb's. the best lads where i live are usually boxers and martial artists. when i go home to visit i bounce at a bar in manhatten. but i also bounce part time at a club in jacksoville fl. it sometimes gets boring but the woman are unbelievable. you have to know how to treat them and trust me it pays out in the end. | ||

i agree that most ppl carry guns and weapons.. but they don't get searched before they go in? I know that most clubs around here search all the guys, especially the ones w/ baggy clothes on before they enter. Im sure it will probably get old, but its just something about wearing that tight black security shirt that seems to get the bouncers women... I bounced for eight years -- 5 of those years were spent running security at bars in Boston and Milwaukee. As was said previously, it is a very boring and thankless job. Although it has its good times, don't think you will be out there getting your groove on and flirting with every hot ass that walks by. It does not work that way. There is a job to be done and if you or someone else is not doing his job, then someone gets hurt if shit goes down. By the way, the comment that size is not everything is absolutely correct. Although size is always a good thing -- I don't want a big guy with an attitude who is going to swing at any sign of confrontation. I also don't want a hard on who thinks he can just push people around. You want bouncers who can talk 99% of the situations out of the bar or night club without any type of physical force. Yes, you do want someone who can take care of himself and who can watch my back if shit goes wrong -- however, that situation is pretty rare. Out of the 8 years I bounced -- I can count the number of fights that occured on two hands. Night clubs are businesses. Businesses want to make money. As they say in the movie RoadHouse, people who truly want to have fun will not come to a slaughter house. ------------------ Because I want to . . . Because I have to . . . Because I need to . . . shit the club i work at is a korean club, the most immaculate club in los angeles, tables range from 200-1500 dollars, called club le prive, but man there is a fight almost every weekend, those young koreans are all juiced up on the liquor and they hang out w/ their little clicks, but yeah I love getting those fuckers in the sleeper hold, I knock em out in about 8 seconds, especially after takin about 50 mg of halotestin, but it is a cool job, since the club is probably one of the best in the US, we got people from ny, sf, and all over come in and they think it is the shit. But the job is cool, I like it, it does get old, but hey doesnt any job. | ||

I used to do it for about 4 years.And was recently just offered another job on the weekends. But nowadays it's jsut not worth the risk of a beerbottle or some nut-case and his buddies sending you to the hospital. I have to agree that I have been clubs where fights seem to break out every hour on the hour. I have found that if you have more than adequate staffing and maintain I high degree of visibility, it tends to lessen the problems a bit. If you keep a close eye on the crowd, you can see where problems are starting to occur. That is when having good verbal and people skills come into play. I am not saying that shit never happened. However, I am saying that we were able to get most situations out of the club before it errupted or a punch was thrown. That is where not being a hard-on and looking for a fight is advantagous. My job is to protecte the "establishment" and help the business flourish. My job is not kick the crap out everyone that shoots be a dirty look. ------------------ Because I want to . . . Don't let the size of bouncer's fool you. I'm 5'9 185 and bounce. As cheesey said the smaller guys are the one's to look out for. I've been in freestyle-submission fighting for 3and a half years, and am quite confident in my abilities. Remember we're all the same size on the floor. | ||

I think it would suck because you would have to breathe smoke all night. I got drug out of the bar by my throat by 2 bouncers who were breaking up a fight. I used to bounce for a stripclub in upper OH..Middletown to be exact...I love the "fringe benefits" but I got so tired of seeing the same weirdos that were so deranged that they couldn't get any poontang on their own so they paided for it.Sometimes everyday of the week..Mainly when their disability checks came in.Sad, but true. ------------------ |
