hey guys i need your help. i work as a security office and every year your licences has to be renewed. the proble is that in the past year i got charged with carrying a conceled weapon (baton) and now they're (government) reviewing my application to renew. they asked me to write a letter to them and get 2 character refrences.

I'm going to get one of my friends to write one of them, so what kinds of things would you include for character refrences...also how am i as a person to the community.... i need to BS some of it because i dont want to lose my job over this....

hope you can help!

thanks

I would try to get someone in the clergy, local gov.,police, even a parent. Any of these will have a more positive impact than a 'friend'. Good luck

I know quite a bit on this since I worked in the DoD and went through four different processes to get clearance levels.

First: review with your friends and family (or anyone who you are using as a reference) what they know about your life- arrests, drug/alcohol use, credit ratings and/or debts.

Second: tell the people you are using as a reference that they will likely be getting a all regarding your character.

Third: disclose everything bad you have done if they ask. They are looking to see if what you report matches what they find. For example: If you smoked pot and they ask, tell them.

Fourth: if you get a lie detector test, be nervous the whole time. Do not try to beat the system unless you have been trained and practiced it.

Fifth: if the form you fill out asks you to explain any misdeamenor or felonies do so in great detail. Spin it off without telling outright lies.

Hope this helps bro.
Good luck.

PS. What friggin' state busted you for a baton as a concealed weapon?

PPS. Do you have a state or federal CC license?

Code has some great advice. I have been through many a hearing and I do well. Parents, spuose, boss and friends are all good references. Find out what they will say so you can guide them toward the most favorable testimony. I would accentuate that you had the baton for defense, NOT for agression. Email me if you wish. Good luck.
