2 Charged in Steroid Sting By MIKE CLAFFEY wo Russian immigrants were busted by federal agents after customs officials discovered a cache of 3.25 million steroid pills in a cargo container that purportedly contained furniture. Aron Kuperman, 42, of Brooklyn, and Ilya Tsoy, 19, of Staten Island were charged with conspiring to import steroids in what the feds called the largest steroid seizure in history. The street value was estimated at $4 million to $5 million. Customs agents discovered the shipment Jan. 6, when they were inspecting a cargo container that originated in Moldova in the former Soviet Union. It had been shipped via Ukraine and Israel to Port Elizabeth, N.J., according to a complaint filed by Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Roby Kennedy. The complaint said that 140 boxes of steroids were hidden in pallets inside the container. As part of a high-tech sting operation, the agents replaced the steroids with other items and sprinkled the inside of the pallets with dust that becomes visible under ultraviolet light. They also installed beeper devices that would emit an signal to agents when the pallets were opened, the complaint said. Agents said they monitored the delivery of the container to Interstate Auto Sales in Staten Island and videotaped Kuperman as he supervised the removal of the pallets with a forklift. After they watched Kuperman remove some boxes from the container and take them into a trailer on the car lot, the agents moved in and arrested him and Tsoy. According to the complaint, Kuperman allowed the agents to search his apartment, where they found samples of steroids in the shipment. Waiving his right to remain silent, Kuperman denied he knew steroids were in the container and "made various claims as to why the pallets allegedly containing furniture were in a car lot on Staten Island," the complaint said. He also claimed he had stolen the pallets from their true owner. Both men face five years behind bars if convicted.     | ||

2 things: if they were all fakes would they still get in trouble? also 5 years for that amount is nothing, I thought these were scheduled with cocaine and heroin where prison time is much more than 5 years? Are they getting less strict with steroids and jail time? For every one that gets caught theres many more that get thru. the war on drug is,was and will always be a losing battle for one reason, demand leads to supply! | ||

I find 5 years to be a bit on the lenient side considering that steroids are SCHEDULE II in NY and not schedule III as they are federally. Dianabol as addcitive as Morphine or Fentanyl-that in itself is a fucking farce. ------------------ | ||

No shit YMK! 5 years for what is the equivalent of 3000 anabol TUBS!!! Federal charges of possession & intent to distribute 'roids carries a maximum 15 years sentence. Maybe he's only facing state charges, but for that type of quantity I find it highly unlikely. | ||

If the Feds busted them it will be whatever the Fed guidelines are (I think class C) Steroids are the lowest on the list for the DEA. Half the DEA uses them!! I had a Fed raid my house and this guy was huge!!hhhhhhmmmm..and if they are fakes, it doesn't matter-they charge you the same J | ||

If they were fakes, I think it would matter not. I know that if you try selling something like dried tea leaves as weed, and get busted, you get busted for dealing weed. Wierd like that. As for the price in New York -- maybe on the street and in gym prices, but most guys I know now go mail-order anyway. Watch out though -- DEA agents are all gonna gain 20 pounds over the next 10 weeks! | ||
