Fellas, I hear a lot of I'm gonna do an 8-week cycle of this and a 10 or 12-week cycle of that on this board. If NOTHING replaces good exercise and a proper diet, why are "we" planning eating, sleeping and lifting around using AAS? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't we plan using AAS around a good, well thought out cycle of hardcore lifting, sleeping and eating? Just a thought to throw out there to you guys.

AMEN!!! Sometimes we get a bit carried away and think we have the magic potion in our hands. Newbies come aboard and see this and assume it is the cure all. I'm sure we are all guilty of getting a bit too carried away with planning and using AS and at times neglecting what really creates the desired effects...DIET, TRAINING, and REST. What separates the men from the boys in this game is the ability to get the priorities straight.

I completely disagree with that notion. I posted this on another board and I figured it would be appropriate for this thread.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As many of you know, I believe protein is the most highly over-rated component and is way over-emphasized. In my time, I have known quite a few guys who had unbelieveable natural development. There was this Asian guy who barely spoke English that trained at my old gym. He ate cookies, candy, and hamburgers. The only exercise he ever did was bench...EVERY DAY performing less than 4 reps only. He weighed about 150 at a height of 5'4" and held a constant 6% bf by my estimate. Granted he is not Mr. O material, but he had some pretty awesome development for his size. People would ask him what he would do for legs. He would reply, "Nothing...but I used to have paper route when I am teenager...carried heavy bags." This guy had quads that anyone would be envious of.....not to mention every other bodypart.
Case 2: When living in Chicago by the Taylor St. area, I used to see guys (many homeless) walking around all day with their shopping carts collecting scrap metal. They would sell the scrap metal and buy alcohol. There was one guy in particular who was an absolute monster. He was around 200lbs shredded, and I estimate his arms measured 17". I would see him all the time walking his route pushing the cart in one hand and a flask in the other. One day I asked him if he ever lifted. His reply, "Never a day in my life." So how could this alcoholic who consumed most of his calories from alcohol have a physique like Evander Holyfield? Genetics. I have seen enough people like this to conclude that receptor affinity is the single greatest factor to muscle growth. If your body has the right combinations of hormones and enough calories from whatever the source, you will grow. If you are one of these blessed few, you could eat cardboard and still look awesome. The rest of us make the futile attempt to stuff ourselves with as much protein as possible in effort to create a positive nitrogen balance. We like to tell others that our perfect diet is the result of our progress. But in reality, it is the minor part of the of the equation. If your body wants to grow, it will find a way to grow. It will become increasingly efficient at utilizing protein via hormones

And here is a reply to that thread posted by another bro (Mr. Nobody) at that board:

case 3: When I was 16, one of my friends (14 years old) was developed like Tom Platz, as a matter of fact, he even had jaws like him, complete with monster legs and everything else, he looked like a young twin of his. Yet, when I asked him, if he was working out with weights, he gave me a blank stare. So I tried to get him to go to the gym with me. After our first work out he returned to drinking and smoking and chasing girls. He let me know, that lifting hurt too much.......
Now looking back, I think he was one of those myostatin freaks. That boy just naturally looked like a freak. Where would I be with his genes? Propably where he is at, cause if you have no need for muscles, since you are already packed with them, then you won't get into this obsession of ours ever.
BTW: All that boy did was smoke and drink alcohol, Whenever he did eat, he'd eat gummy bears and the likes...
And I have not seen him in years

Bchemist, I can't agree with you more about genetics. I did leave that portion out of the equation. I was WRONG for that. Thank you for bringing that up.
Now, how about the guys who can't eat gummy bears, cookies etc and still have that fantastic body? You know, the guys who lack genetics? Why do they think that AS is the "magic potion" to success? Shouldn't we stress a little more hard work and discipline first rather than AS. Don't get me wrong. AAS is a fantastic aid in achieving your goals, but not all of us are "genetically blessed". I ain't just talkin' about sexual organs either.

We tell people those things about AS so they won't abuse it. The fact is, AS is genetics in a bottle. If you take enough, you will become massive. Even the bodybuilding rags admit to this when discussing guys like Markus Rhul. Even look at old pics of Dorian Yates when he won the NOC vs. two years later at the O. His body composition changed at an unbelieveable rate. In a perfect world, you should have to work hard to achieve your goals. But if you take enough of the right drugs, you will grow no matter what. This is the last thing that you should be telling an impressionable teenager like the multitudes on this board, but it is the reality of the issue.
