a parallel squat in terms of weight make.BEcause i squat ass to the floor with 245 lbs for 15 screaming reps and then i look around and see people smaller than me squatting 3 plates a side and it makes me feel a little weak. I just always wondered. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

See my answer under the "who puts a 10lb weight under thier heel" thread. I max on parallel around 375. When I did "ass-to-floor", which I will never do again, I did 250. So for me, it is over a 100 pound difference. I don't use a wieght belt for either. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

huge difference bro...it two different exercises more or less, or two different variations, kinda like flat bench versus incline bench....I haven't parallel squatted in awhile...the biggest difference is that parallels are easier, and most people just wanna have the weight on the bar so they look big.... big-guy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It makes a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE difference! So, don't feel bad because if they broke the parrallel line they wouldn't be able to get back up! Believe me. ------------------ [This message has been edited by JuanDeLaCruz (edited January 12, 2001).] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

As you probably know, there are some excellent posts in the archives that address this as well. Here is a good one from September. https://www.elitefitness.com/ubb/Archives/Forum1/09-2000/028969.html My response: "Ass-to-the-floor" and lift for you (i.e. don't be concerned with the half-ass'ers around ya'). I use 275 in my ass to ground squats and it feels like a ton getting off the bottom! Huge difference no doubt! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I believe it leads to better overall freaky quad development. I personally try to do full squats for most of my sets but once i go real heavy, i am pushing for only parallel. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

anything below parallel is insane. Think about the stress on the tendons. By the way "your tendons" is all your working when you go below parallel. I've also seen some very large guys <over 250 lb guys> only doing half squats and have insane upper leg developement. Of course they were on quite a lot of juice but still. .02 from someone who has ripped a tendon because of this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Gord: What are you talking about? Which tendons? Anyway, when you stop at parallel all the stress is on the knees when you switch directions. When you go ass-to-floor the stress is on the hips when you change directions. Obviously the hip joint is much more stable and stronger than the knee joint. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I do full squats for 2 reasons. 1) They hurt my knees LESS. 2) I can't use as much weight. I did 485 x 3 on full squats a few weeks ago, weigh close to 300lbs, no belt, no suit, no wraps. Did wear a pair of Nike's though, he he. B True ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
