The past 3 weeks it seems ive been holding quite a bit of water under the skin, and as a result I look like complete shit. I have tried to get rid of it by drinking shitloads of water and no results, I have not been on AS for 8 month's.

So the question is my mother gave me one of her water pills (Hydrochlorothiazide 50mg) I split the pill in half so it would not as strong does anyone have any info on this diuretic?

I have not taken it yet, but im about to
just wanted to see what you guys think of it, I think I might have read awhile ago that it produces cortisol which would not be good but im not sure.

I don't know about your mom's pills, but Dandelion root works well. Some of those water pills you can get OTC (mostly for women on their periods) work well too. Watch your soduim, take the dandelion root, and drink 2 gallons of water a day and you'll lose the water you're holding. I know that's alot of water to drink, but that's the way it is.

I don't know anything about it, but dandelion root does work. You can also try 1500 mg of potassium for 3 days and see what that does for you. Clomid seems to help cut back on the water for me too. I've also heard it suggested that nolva does this too?

ramstack,
he says he's been off for 8 months. It's probably due to a change in his diet (sodium). I can tell soon after I eat a high sodium meal that I'm starting to retain water.

Definitely Dandelion root, over 1000mg per day. Also go to your doctor and try to get a blood pressure medication called Catapres 2mg before bedtime, 1mg mid day. It will keep your blood pressure at 120/80 with that much water and research has shown it raises natural growth hormone production when taken before bed.

On the flipside, it could also be from sodium deprivation if you don't get enough salt in your diet... Or just too many carbs?

Generic names (Common brand names):
captopril and hydrochlorothiazide (Capozide)
enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide (Vaseretic)
lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide (Prinzide, Zestoretic)
* This list may not include all brand names.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description:
These combination medications provide two different mechanisms to control high blood pressure.

Captopril, enalapril and lisinopril are ACE inhibitors. ACE inhibitors block angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), an enzyme that indirectly causes blood vessels to constrict. When this enzyme is blocked, blood vessels relax and blood pressure is lowered.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. Diuretics are often called 'water pills'. Exactly how diuretics lower blood pressure is not known, but they may relax small blood vessels (arterioles). They also cause the kidneys to increase the amount of salt and water eliminated from the body in the urine.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Uses:
ACE inhibitors combined with hydrochlorothiazide are used to treat high blood pressure. High blood pressure is treated with medication to prevent a stroke or damage to the heart and kidneys.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Proper use:
Take Capozide on an empty stomach (1 hour prior to meals), unless otherwise instructed by your health care provider. Take it with a full glass of water. Medication may be taken more than 1 time daily depending on health care provider's instructions. If taking multiple doses throughout the day, it is best not to take the last dose any later than 6 p.m. unless otherwise instructed by health care provider.

Prinizide, Vaseretic, and Zestoretic can be taken without regard to meals.

The treatment of hypertension is normally a life-long process. Because hypertension is a disorder without symptoms, a hypertensive person may feel normal with or without the medication. It is important to take this medication exactly as the health care provider instructs, even if you feel well.

Missed dose:
Take it when you remember, unless your next dose is due soon. Do not double your next dose.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cautions:
INFORM YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER

* about any past reactions to

Special considerations:
ALCOHOL

* Drinking too much alcohol on a daily basis can make medication for high blood pressure less effective. If you are taking this medication for high blood pressure, do not drink more than:
* 2 ounces of 100 proof alcohol each day or
* 8 ounces of wine each day or
* 24 ounces of beer each day.

BREAST FEEDING

* Most ACE inhibitors are found in breast milk in small amounts. The manufacturer of captopril recommends against use by women who are breast feeding. The manufacturers of enalapril and lisinopril recommend caution for use by women who are breast feeding. The American Academy of Pediatrics considers captopril and enalapril usually compatible with breast-feeding.
* Thiazide diuretics pass into and may decrease the flow of breast milk. Some sources recommend that you avoid them while breast-feeding a newborn. The American Academy of Pediatrics considers hydrochlorothiazide usually compatible with breast-feeding.
* Ask your health care provider for advice before using one of these medications if you are breast feeding.

DIABETES MELLITUS

* Hydrochlorothiazide can increase your blood glucose. If you have diabetes, you may need a higher dose of insulin or oral diabetes medication. Get advice from your health care provider.

DISCONTINUING MEDICATION

* Do not stop taking this medication without the advice of your health care provider.
* Medications control, but do not cure, high blood pressure. If you are taking this medication for high blood pressure, you may need to take it for life.

DRIVING AND HAZARDOUS EQUIPMENT OPERATION

* These medications can make you feel dizzy or faint at first. Do not drive or use machinery that requires you to be alert until you know how it affects you.

ELDERLY

* The elderly may be more sensitive to side effects of hydrochlorothiazide.

FOODS

* Talk with your health care provider about salt intake. It is best not take potassium supplements without first consulting your health care provider.

GOUT

* Thiazide diuretics can trigger a gout attack in people who already have gout or who may be at high risk for developing gout.

INFANTS AND CHILDREN

* Safety and effectiveness for this age group have not been established. However, these drugs are used in pediatric patients. Children are particularly sensitive to side effects and should be monitored for the adverse reactions listed above.

PREGNANCY

* ACE inhibitors should never be used after the first 3 months of pregnancy. If you think you may be pregnant and you take an ACE inhibitor, get advice from your health care provider as soon as possible.
* Hydrochlorothiazide has not been shown to be harmful to the fetus. But when used by a pregnant woman close to term, it may cause some side effects in the newborn such as jaundice, low potassium, or blood problems. Before taking, weigh the risks and benefits with your health care provider.

SEXUAL FUNCTION

* Men may experience a decreased libido, and rarely impotence.

SUNLIGHT

* This medication can make your skin more likely to sunburn. Avoid too much sun. Do not use tanning booths. Protect yourself from the sun with clothing, hats, and sunscreen (including your lips).
