If someone just e-mail you out of the blue, be very careful. E-mail a vet or a moderator to verify the source before sending your hard earned money. As a note...It is VERY hard for a source from Mexico to mail consistently to the US without problems.

Golden rule I have always used. Good sources don't much need to ever advertise. Repeat customers and a few referrals keep them very busy. Scammers and sources that are flaky NEED to advertise as folks will only order from them once.... ------------------ Lobo

This statement is very untrue. If a legit source doesn't email anyone, then how do they get their first customers? EMAIL IS THE PROPER WAY FOR SOURCES TO GET CUSTOMERS. It's the only way source business should be done. Yes, yes, once a source is established then he doesn't need to just randomly email people but until then that is the correct protocol. ------------------

well said el cubano........ utilizing the net is the most effective, safest way for a source to communicate with customers and establish oneself.... im sure the plethora of sources many of us use, both domestic and international, had to estabish themselves through the use of usolicitited emailing of bros on the boards.... now....if you have 10 posts to your name and you get emailed..........be VERY skeptical and always check out a potential source....... in solidarity Unity66

I agree with both Cubano and 2Thick on this..and I know the dude in which we are talking... I dont pay much attention to sources emailing me, and dont trust many of them, BUT on the other hand, in the case that you would get a random email from a source I encourage you to email a mod or vet on his status, or ask him for legitimate refs from boards your aquainted with, to ensure he is in fact legit. It can go both ways, but the safe way is to find someone your comfy with and stick with that man...invite him to dinner....baby showers...birthdays....family reunions....ok, maybe thats a bit carried away....but you see my point..heh..heh..heh.. I`m agree with El Cubano. When the source is starting his business he has no choice. He`s just have to e-mail people.

Interesting comments and I have to agree with most all of them. We had 2 MODS comment on this guys and we need to pay attention. Yes, it is somewhat rare for a source to email you direct and I would tend to be skeptical. On the other hand, how the hell else will he get himself established. Discretion and judgment are the keys. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, check sources against MODS and other guys you see on the boards a lot who obviously know what they are talking about. On the other side MODS, you guys have a huge responsibility to respond to those emails. Dudes, whether you realize it or not this is a "brotherhood" and "we watch each others backs" to the best of our ability. Our common goal should be to do everything we can to make sure our boys don't get scammed or busted......source and buyer alike.

On the whole I also ignore unsolicited source emails. But for those guys looking for a source or a new one, really all you gotta do is follow one rule - CHECK. It's that simple. You're thinking about using a source? Email mods from at least two boards, the more the better, wait for their response and you'll have a good idea of whether to go for it or not. That's all there is to it kids! IronMike

I agree about new sources resorting to open emails to gain business, unfortunately it's hard to determine who is legit and who is scamming. I read one awhile back that said he would send free gear to some mods just to get a good rep going...damn must be nice

I am with the cuban on this one. Most of them that are starting out will email a moderator and offer to front to gain trust, from there relationships are established, I have been in this position and it has worked fine. ------------------ DECA-IT'S WHAT'S FOR DINNER

They may e-mail a moderator or vet and gain their trust through fronting but nobody should take the risk on a person who just e-mail you. BTW- Most of the sources I know started through referrals through a mod or a vet. That is the best way for sources to start out. |
