It's called Pretty Good Privacy, PGP.
It's a free form of DES encryption, DES or 3DES are the options. It goes from 48-2048 bit encryption.

You can encrypt e-mail and files with it.

Not too bad if you can't afford a digital certificate.

Just use hushmail - it is 1024 and is secure between two people using it.
