Has anyone bought one of these scales that measures weight as well as bodyfat? Do you find them to be fairly accurate? Where did you get yours and how much do they normally cost? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have one (Bio impediance scale) I have found it to be accurate to the degree that it can monitor lean body change. What I mean by this is it seems to be about 3% higher than with calipers, but if used at the same time of day (mornings) before taking in anything, including water (caffeine will mess it up to). It will monitor your progress. Say you were 15% and now a couple weeks later are 12% the change will correlate with a caliper measurement. Although you may actually have been 12% and are now 9%. Hope this helps. ![]() ![]() ![]()

bigelvis --the scales can be found at GNC for like 100cdn. There has been a mixed feeling on them but I believe its worth it. At my university they tested different methods to acquire body fat in a fitness class. It showed calipers are the least effective closely followed by the scale. They were comparable in results ...keep in mind though the scale usually had to be averaged over a couple days and females have even more trouble with them (menstruation..etc). The hydrodenistometry (water dunk) was far more accurate but is less pratical. I have a tanita tbf-622 which includes an option for athletes which i have yet to understand. All in all the scale was very accurate weight and for the average joe is good to monitor body fat. I say go for it "In research mode, planned cycle April 2001" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

bigmac i have the same scale. The athlete scale takes into consideration that you may have a much larger amount of lean mass then a normal person. In other words if your 240 ripped it wont tell you, you have 23 percent body fat, like those fuckin gnc scales ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have tried several types and all give incorrect readings for me. I just have my bf measured with calipers by a trainer at my gym from now on. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

OK, lets put it this way....I don't mind that it tells me I have 20%bf if I actually have 15%bf. I'm more concerned that it will accurately show reductions in bf. I mean, if it starts off 3% too high, but is constantly 3% too high, that's fine. I just want to track progress...not know the exact percentage. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

powerlifter, i have the same scale, but how can idecide if if put it on athlete mode or adult mode? on the instruction sheet i've read that athlete is a person who has an heart rate below 60. i 'm not below in fact i have 70 but on adult mode it seems to add me a lot of fat thet i don't have. on athlete mode it seems more accurate but i'm not sure wich one is correct. Suggestions? ![]() ![]() ![]()

In my opinion the scales suck. The absolute best way to measure BF is in a dunk tank but of course not everyone has access to one so stick with the calipers. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
