Author | Topic: Effects of heavy cardio during bulking cycle? (Need responses from Rugby players)

I'm thinking of playing rugby for the college where I am starting grad school next week. I am 2.5 weeks into my bulking cycle. Do you think that I will hindering my gains too much with all the cardio involved in rugby? Just for the record, I could definitely stand to lose some bodyfat, so I wouldn't mind trading a few pounds of potential muscle gains from the cycle for a few pounds of lost fat. Also concerned about potential for injury. Would hate to be out of comission when the sust starts kicking in. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you're a forward, forget about it. You will be too taxed from training, both in the strength and cardio dept. That is if you're busting your ass like you should, getting to every breakdown. Think about it, forwards do all the work, PUSH, RUN, TACKLE, REPEAT. Backs, no problem, but then if you're a back you wouldn't be here, you'd be on a sewing forum. American (read:sissified) football, no problem, there's more down time than game time. Good Luck, it will be tough. If you truly want to bulk and play, you could, but you will not gain as much as if you didn't play. I am taking the current 15s season off because I am bulking. Hooker (moved all the way from outside centre). Oh-almost forgot call or email Tom Billups of the Eagles, he will reply and provide you with workout, diet, etc. He is now the stregth and conditioning coach and pretty nice guy in my encounters with him. -rugger PS, I noticed a lot of "rugby" in usernames, looks like this board has many. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I agree with what rugger said, especially about the backs, hehehe. Finish your cycle first then play. But by all means do play, rugby is like no other sport, you won't regret it. Cycles can be expensive and take a long time to plan and put together, so I would keep my focus on eating, lifting, and proper rest to maximize what you can get out of it. Still a juice novice, but I think you're just going to have to consume that many more calories to keep it a bulking cycle because training can get pretty tiresome. BTW, don't appreciate all those comments about backs (lol). I do my fair share of tackling and clean up after the forwards are too tired to cover their men.(I play inside center). Just watch Tana Umaga or Jonah to see the work those boys put in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Lomu on offense is awesome, Lomu on defense, wouldn't want him on my team. Hey, I moved from outside to inside and finally to hooker, so I've been there. ruck on ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Add some clen to your supplement program. Up your carbs and increase the fat content in your diet. goto 1.5 g per lb of lbm on your protein. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
