Hello bro's, need some advice. When bulking naturally do you guys bother with cardio and how much. I train with weights 3 times a week with rest days in between, do you think doing cardio in between would increase cortisol and reduce my optimum gains. Thanks for the help, Jim.

I wouldnt do too much cardio if you are trying to bulk up, rather save it for cutting up. Enough to get blood flowing before a workout and possibly 5 mins to cool down after training to help clean the lactic acid out of your body. Drink loads of water as well. ------------------

I would avoid it. I don't do any while bulking. It will be that much more effective if you save it for cutting. I find it interferes quite substantialy with gains. ------------------

dont listen to them, there just lazy, what good is your strength on the outside if you got none in the insides!! think of it like this, you get into a fight throw 3 punches your out of breath and the guy you fight runs everyday, he just keeps knockin on you continuously untill your done. I would do cardio, but maybe thats because I also box. but its your call peace

Got to agree with luvs2tojuice. I do Jujitsu and it is very cardio intense and not so strength intense, although the combo is lethal. Of course it is not a priority while bulking but it should never be dropped completely, just altered to the goals at hand. By the way cardio makes for a well tuned body which makes for more and better blood flow which makes for more quality and quanity nutrient absorption which makes for more muscle growth and health. You see how it all works? You will also have more energy and zest for training and not fatigue as quick. I've seen 140 lbs guys graple (what Jujitsu is) with 220 lbs guys and they beat em every time! It is of course mostly technique but they are also in better cardio shape. 2 -3 times a week while bulking, 30 minutes, 3 - 5 times a week while cutting 45 minutes to an hour is my advice.

Ok thanks for the help guys, although im still a bit confused as this topic seems very opinionated. Im taking glutamine and gaba at the moment so do you think this will reduce the increase in cortisol levels i would get from doing cardio while bulking. thanks

I say do cardio as long as you are still gaining. I konw that some people dont need to do it while bulking, by if I bulk without cardio I get bloated as a balloon. Cardio would decrease you recobery abilityes, so the trick is on doing as little as posible. Look for the balance: size vs. bloat. ------------------

Not quite lazy luvs2juice. Used to be an endurance runner. Nothing lazy about that. There is also nothing lazy about leaving every ounce of energy you have in the weight pit. Lazyness is in the eye of the beholder. If you put all your balls into the iron you certainly arn't lazy, and when one is bulking you should be putting every ounce of your soul into the iron. Being a former endurance athelete and now a bodybuilder I can firmly say they are entirely different conquests. If you want to be an endurance athelete...run and bust you ass with hours of catabolic cardio. If you want to be truely massive...hit the iron as hard as your body will allow you. Bodybuilding isn't and endurance sport. If your training for fights, then this would not be considered bodybuilding. It would be sport specific traing. Much like traing for football or any other physical sport. Bodybuilding is cosmetic. It's about the quality of the physique...not how many punches you can throw. One can have quite sufficient cardio health if they are training with the iron intensely enough. I don't have the need to run for countless hours. I have the need to pump enough blood to my muscle. That can be acheived through hard weight training. I doubt you'll be finding Ronnie C "MR. O" himself, slaving over the cardio during his bulking cycles. I also doubt you would call him lazy based solely on his physique. It shows that he busts is ass in the gym. It's just a different part of the gym. Where the iron is. Not where you can here the beeping of treadmills. ------------------

beezers: i think you have a point but you are taking it too far. 45-60 mins of cardio with proper precautions will burn loads of fat, not muscle. if you do not care at all about staying lean while bulking, your way will work fine. but if you are like me and like to stay lean, might want to hit the cardio. as long as you do it away from the weight training workout you will be just fine, and IMO, not hinder gains at all.

If your diet is right you won't have to worry about accumulating fat. You can stay lean while bulking if your diet is well suited for you. This is why begining lifters should not venture to juice so quickly. It takes time to find the right diet for you body. You can manipulate your body through diet. Like I said, If you know your body and what works for it as far as diet goes you should never have the need to worry about fat getting out of control while bilking. ------------------
