This is stupid but it's interesting when u think about it. Which way do u put the plates on the barbell? Out or in, and why do u do this?

I like the plates pointed toward the center. It's almost like obsessive compulsiveness or something. I think that if everything is lined up just perfect, it will unlock the power that is shut up inside of me. At least thats what I tell myself. It's kindof my way of getting myself psyched up for a lift.

I even have to have the same brand on the bar.

I know this is not normal, but it works for me...

I put the lip towards the inside. I was told that when I started out this was the way it was supposed to be. The reason behind this thinking is that when you put the weight on or take it off you can get a better grip on it. Your fingers can grip the lip of the plate (instead of your thumbs trying to grip the lip), and thus you are less likely to drop it. Makes sense to me.

I have the numbers facing in so that the smooth surface faces out. I was told that this is the safer way to load because if someone where to walk by with the numbers facing out, its easier for something to snag the rim of the weight and mess up the lifting motion. But, for me, any time someone bumps my weight while I'm lifting it screws me up.

OK here is the reason for facing the plates with the letters facing in.
The idea is the next plate you slide on
facing in will create a seal on to the plate
already there. I know it's iron to iron however there is a chance that some air vacuum/seal might be happening here.
Hey i don't just make this shit up.
Food for thought.

Flat surface out. Two reasons gentlemen. The first is stability. You get the outer ring pressing against a flat surface and not missing it entirely and the bar opening setting on the inside. That way you won't get wobble. The other is for grip.

I put the plates however I'm holding them, for the simple reason that I don't want to be affected by this petty stuff. Sometimes I'll even face one side in and one out, pretty crazy.

Here is the best reason for the lettering to face out. When the plate faces out, the heaviest part of the plate is closer to the center of the bar, thus making it easier for the lifter to balance the weight. Any takers?

Peace.

Outwards for me. My main problem is the colours. In my gym we have blue 20kg and black 20kg. If they aren't properly 'balanced' on each side it really f*cks me up psychologically, even though they are the same weight and it probably makes no difference whatsoever.
