I think I will do stiff legged deads for one back day, then do regular heavy deads the next back day and alternate them like that because I do lower back first in the workout and regular deads kick my ass. Since I have the rest of my back after deads, this will work better. Who here does something like this? ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have done something similar at various times in the past. My only comment is that if you are going to do SLD's, then there seems little point in doing lower back first, unless you are trying to focus on that area for the sake of balance. Put another way, lower back before SLD's is the functional equivalent of doing biceps before lats -- great for the biceps, hinders back development. I'd do the SLD's first. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

My mistake, sorry. I do like the concept of swapping the two; I find it works very well. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I do stiff leggs on leg day. I stopped doing deads on back day for a while so I could concentrate on stiff leggs so I began doing cleans on back day. B True ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I see them as two entirely different exercises, which they are. SLDL are quite specific, almost an isolation movement for the hammy's and glutes, and if done properly should involve very minimal back effort. Power deadlifts on the other hand are a heavy compound mass building movement using just about every muscle in the body. They really stimulate the lower back muscle as well as upper back thus the are heavily a back movement. SLDL are mainly a hamstring movement. I do power deads on back day and sldl on leg day. I think they should both be used in a complete routine as they are both used for two different purposes. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
