For example, I weight 175lbs and can bench press 280lbs.

280/175= 1.6 which means I can bench press 1.6 times my weight. I wanna hear from the others. Use this format...this should be interesting. Also throw in off-cycle or on cycle.

280bench/175BW=1.6 off cycle...well, just started three days ago.

Bro I would'nt worry about this if I were you. I would'nt compare my bench to the answers you'll get because quite frankly this thread will become a bullshiting contest very quickly when all the 800lb benchers come out of the woodwork. So the point being that a lot of new lifters will see these bullshit hyped up stats and think they are not doing well and have to live up to unreralistic expectations. By the way bro that is a solid bench you have there, so keep up the good work. Do you do powerlifting? I would love to try powerlifting one of these days.

Honestly, I'm not really worried. I know my I'm not the strongest bencher out there. Just thought this would be fun...common...give it a try. I think we're all mature enough to not get discouraged....maybe it will inspire some of us.

Hey bro,
I think your post was good and most importantly honest. but I can tell you know that 9 out of 10 replies you get will be bullshit. It is amazing I have seen this same thread a 100 times before and every time it turns into a bullshiting contest, so people are actually stupid enough to not even check the bench press records and the crap they say they can lift is over the world record for their weight and shit like that. The last one I saw a guy said something like this " I am 5'9 180lbs from arizona and I bench 700lbs and one of the bro's checked and the state record was like 620lbs .....anyway you get the point.

Luca is right, i see alot of bullshit on these posts, and then people have unreal expectations

If you are a body builder the amount of weight lift is not important it is the way you look!

if you are a powerlifter then thats a different story

if you are normal guy just trying to get bigger (like me) then it doesnt matter how you compare to others

PLUS lifting is about leverage to so people with shorter arms (less distance to move the weight) and lower center of gravity can lift more...plain physics bodyweight is only part of it

But i'm a bodybuilder where heavy weights are just a by-product of feel, pumps & contractions.

Hopefully the lack of outrageousness will lend a grain of credibility to mt claims. I only do 365@200 but the dude I lift with does 365@170. He looks lots smaller so its much more impressive to see him do it. 15 inch arms and all, he's as strong as I am.

Well I powerlifted for years so I have good lifts, I have benched 500lbs @ 200lbs in the gym, best competion lift was 465lbs at 181lbs but I'd give up 200 pounds for a couple more inches in upper body size in a heart beat. Body Building is much more important for me now!!!!

2 weeks ago I benched 403.5 @295lb. Not that great for my weight, but I am getting started. It is by far the best that I have ever done in my 6 years of lifting. I have been powerlifting for about 6 months now. Really like it, but am just starting to learn the game.

I bet I am one of the weakest benchers here pound per pound! I weigh 265 and max at 350 so thats approx 1.3xBW I have always been weak for my size, It is kinda embarrasing sometimes!I just wonder what I'll look like if I ever can hit 450!!!

For real i bench 335 for 1 rep, and i weigh 235, but ive almost got 275 for 10 reps, so its time to max out again.
My new year resolution, drop body fat to 10%(at 19% now), and get a 400lb bench.

My best was 405@198. However there is a guy on the power lifting bored (Lexus) who says he benches over 500. I believe he said he was between 170 and 180. Don't quote me on that though.

Before I tore my pec at the tendon junction I was hitting 405 for 6-8 and hopping to break 500. I weigh 245 its pretty good but I have 2 powerlifing buddies that are both around my size that clearly surpass my strength. . .they are my workout partners which is why I go heavy, I agree with conan a strong bench or hefty triple while good for the ego isn't all that important when your a body builder the mirror is the only judge you need to concern yourself with. If power lifting that keep the huge numbers coming. . .Conan, when your in the city we're going to the gym bro. Than for a beer.

The most I ever done was a straight 400 at a body weight of 189..I just barely got it and knew I couldn't try 405 (4 big plates) cuz I was spent..I go in now and do 275 for 10 (bw about 210) but my shoulders start hurting...so I try to stay around 275 when flat benching..been doing a lot more inclines lately..talk about a humbling experience..so with your formula..Im was 2.11 times bodyweight...couldn't do that now though..I'd have to hit 420..yeah right!!! lol

Its interesting at 19 years old I did 450 at 260 bw but now that would crush me, I dont concentrate on weight as much. Im 31 at 240 and would be lucky to get 375 but I have much more dense muscle on me now. Back then I was young and dumb, taking 4 or 5 of the A-bombs a day. Now Im just striving to bring up weak body parts and become more muscular!

I just did a local contest, on 12/26 to be exact, and I did 315 @ 173lbs. I have never done any gear, so I was pretty happy with my lift.

The guy in the weight class under me did 405 @ 164lbs. The dude was a freak. He was about 5'6". He told me that he tore a rotator cuff about 9 months ago and he was trying to get his shoulder back into shape!!

Man, I knew there were some strong mofo's out there. You guys are absolutely correct about bench max not being that important in bodybuilding. I used to work out with Flex Wheeler (OK...he worked out at my gym and I just watched). I never saw him bench with more than 3 plates...but his form was PERFECT, and he performed the reps super slow. Like 3 seconds down, 2 seconds up. Very impressive

I don't go to crazy about bodyweight and bench numbers because if you think about it the muscle has to come from somewhere! Guys who weigh 150 pounds and bench 400lbs are either really short, have skinny legs, or use shity form to cheat the wieght up! It takes muscle wieght to push up a clean rep not magic so if you only weigh 150lbs and bench a lot somethings off!

superdave: Flex Wheeler used to work out at my gym back southern cal before I moved to WA. He and Shaw Ray used to work out together. But on this occasion, they were preparing for the Olympia...this was around 3 years ago...so they started working out at different gyms...I guess they didnt want to give away their secrets. Anyways, he was in pre-contest shape...not 100% yet...maybe aournd 80%. The interesting thing is that I've never really seen Flex Wheeler in that bloated "offseason" shape that many pros transform into. He is usual in pretty decent condition and hardness. Anyways, he was repping with 315lbs like it was nobody's business. I mean, it was with the same level and control that the average Joe would be benching 1 plate. He really didnt even break a sweat....I was in awe. He did eventually use some pretty decent sized dumbells however...I think the biggest ones at my old gym were like 125lb'ers, and he did those with ease. In my opinion, he overall, the most symetrical, muscular bodybuilder out....and he doesn't look like a freak!

Can someone please explain something to me. I am 29 years old and have been working out for 14 years using a bodybuilding style routine. I am 195lbs. at about 7% bodyfat, and bench 350. I took on a new training partner a year ago. When we started working out he was 22 years old, 215 lbs., at about 15% bodyfat, and benched 625-honestly. Now a year later he is 235 lbs. and has about 12% bodyfat after taking his first cycle. The question I have is this, after a year of doing a bb style routine, never going under 4 reps, mainly working on form and teaching him new exercises, we walked in the gym a few weeks ago for a chest workout. We warmed up and after a few sets on flat bench he says he wanted to try to max out. I figured he'd followed my workout for a year, what the hell. Somehow he managed to max out with 575 lbs., How is that still possible? You tell me!

Some of you guys have pretty impressive lifts. I weigh 185 and can do 215 for a set of 10, last time i maxed out i got 270. My goal is 315 by the end of my next cycle which wont start for a few months.

I have never called out anyone on this board befor but juan de la cruz is full of shit. Size and weight are not everything when it comes to lifting. I am 28 and have only been an avid lifter for 3 1/2 years and I am not overly strong. I benched 290 at 170 lb. before my first cycle and am currently at 310 lb. max at 185 lbs. mid cycle. I have witnessed many amazing lifts by guys my size up to 400 plus lbs. with very strict form.

yea all these posts about armsize and bench and squat how much u can do ,alot of people bull shit,i use to belive it and compare myself to it,but u know its bull shit when u hear people claiming they can do side laterals with 100s or behind the neck pressing 315 for 8 free weights no smith machine, some people might be able to do this but hear things like this too often online for it to be true, of course some people tell the truth, but the liars spoil it for the honest people

It seems like bench is just something you have or you dont. I've been strong at bench since I was in 8th grade and benched 145. I weighed like 95 lbs. I remember my goal was 185. My coach did it 6 times in front of me and I remember wondering how anyone could lift that because it almost crushed me. Now I'm 21 and max out at 405@185.

Bibleisonyei, how am I full of shit? When all that I'm saying is that putting up a ton of weight takes muscle not magic! Therefore, hypothetically speaking, if it takes 50lbs of muscle to lift 200lbs and there's a guy lifting 250lbs with 50lbs of muscle how is this possible. Answer: cheating, bench shirts, technique etc. That's all that I'm saying, so don't get all excited and call me out when you don't really understand what I'm saying!

Juan I apologize for getting excited. Size is not the bottom line when it comes to strength. Training for strength is much different than just training for the look of a bodybuilder. There are alot of variables. Form, intensity, training heavy for strength instead of lighter for a good pump. BTW did I appologize yet.

certainly not me, my bench is crap. 320 @ 210, a mere 1.5 times. Best ever has been by Markus Schick of Germany: 562 @ 152. a whopping 3.6 times bodyweight!!
