I Walk ont the treadmill 5 days a week for 60 minuites a sesion at 4.2mph adding one percent incline in 10 minuite intervals. Nothing too intense...just enough. I use diet as the main weapon and can get by with far less cardio than that but this allows me to eat more so I'm not so damn hungry. ------------------

I'm with beezers i like long duration moderate intensity cardio for cutting. It has been shown to burn fat the best while the higher intensity cardio is a little better for your heart.

As a rule of thumb, you should be pushing yourself a little for a long period of time. In other words, a fast walk on a moderate incline for an hour a day will work. Generally it takes 20 minutes or more of exercise for your body to deplete itself of carbs and begin to burn fat, so longer durations are most effective.

Hmmmmm.....interested responses. Ive been doing something like Treadmill 0% incline, 5.9 mph for 10 mins, then drop to 3.5 mph for 3 minutes, then go for 7mph for 3 minutus, then back to 3.7 mph for 3 mins, then back to 6.5 mph for 3 mins, and repeat this until I have done 40 mins.............i figured that this would keep varying the intensity..........but now Im thinking of just doing say a 7% incline, for 45 minutes at 4 mph.........around 5 times per week/............im also on 300MG Primo a week.................what do u all think?

The thing to keep in mind(for most of us) is that we arn't trying to become marathon runners or endurance atheletes. For bodybuilding purposes we use cardio as a means to burn extra calories and speed up the metabolism thus HELPING to burn fat(not solely using cardio for fat burning purposes). We must at all times be concious of protecting our muscle mass that will create the bodybuilding physique. Intense cardio will jepordize far too much muscle mass and thus sacrifice the full and distinguishable bodybuilding physique. Diet should always be used as the main weapon for acheiving maximum leanness while maintaining our mass as to create anatomy chart definition. Cardio that is too intense becomes an endurance excercise and not a fat burning activity. High intensity cardio will create an extremely catabolic environment that is anything but conducive to maintaing the muscle mass necessary for that well sculpted look. If competition is the ultimate goal, we don't need to be able to run a 10K. We don't have to run to the show or demonstrate our abilities in a timed mile run for the judges. It is simply a way to use more calories than we normaly would thus facilitating a better weight loss environment. As I mentioned though, diet is the main weapon, and the main objective should be maintaining as much muscle mass a spossible...not winning the Boston marathon. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Beezers (edited December 30, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Beezers (edited December 30, 2000).]

I know this isnt what you probably want to hear but when I try to cut up, I always go with a cyclical ketogenic diet and NO cardio and get down to where I want all the time. Just my two cents. peace Kakdiesel ------------------ "I'll always be number one to myself"....Moses Malone

I think if you can do it with no cardio, then do it. If you don't need it then why use it and sacrifice muscle. I know some people are going to argue the health issue but true bodybuilding isn't about health, and honestly it can at times be unhealthy. It is about a desired cosmetic effect that takes sacrifices. If there is no need for cardio, and some people don't need it, then don't do it. ------------------

If you can get your bodyfat down without using cardio then by all means do so, the only other reason for a little cardio to be added to your routine is for health (cardiovascular) reasons. Luca

Do it in the morning. It's been shown to be up to 4x more effective than doing cardio later in the day. Figure 20 minutes first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is about equal to 60 minutes later in the day. Because later in the day you are just burning the food you ate.

here's a question - does switching up the types of cardio you do help in losing fat - like switching up weight exercises helps in gaining muscle? Seems reasonable. ------------------

Well thats an interesting question. Thats the reason I was varying the intensity of my cardio during each session......................so as to keep the body guessing. But then thinking about it, the more intense u do the cardio then surely you shift in the fuel u use to burn.

Luca and Beezer make an excellent point here, I'm starting to realize that I am still able to lose weight just by proper dieting and just eliminating cardio altogether. I fuckin' hate it anyway......lol. delts ------------------ |
