I would have to go with Metallica's S&M. A lot of people simply don't like it but I couldn't disagree more. The way most of Metallica's songs are layered (especially the older, faster stuff) is situated so that the symphony music blends in perfectly and the synergism is unreal. The first three tracks are nothing short of awe inspiring, IMHO. Consider the brutal, raw power of "Master of Puppets" accompanied by the grand scope of a powerful orchestra. It's like the movie soundtrack to an all-encompassing, emotional action movie...something just out of reach but so grand you wanna grab it and make it become part of you...something surreal. When that shit is pumping, I can tear through leg day like a bloodthirsty warrior.

Okay, admittedly some of the tracks off S&M are plain awkward. If you'll notice, it's usually their newer stuff (i.e. post "...And Justice for All"). For instance, "Sad but True "and "Enter Sandman" are horrible with the orchestra complimenatries but they are awesome songs when left alone. But "Fire", "Master of Puppets", and "Call of the Ktulu" on S&M are better than the original versions (which were already great tracks).

What about you guys?

well, i think you can't go wrong with choosing a metallica album, but s&m,.....

i'd choose kill 'em all or the black album
but it's a real tough decision cause there are so much good bands out there,.....

"Kill 'Em all" is definitely 100 miles per hour and kicks a lot of ass but it doesn't have the heavier bass guitar foundation that I totally dig like after Jason Newstead joined. For that reason I prefer "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets", or "...And Justice for All" which I believe are their three best albums. "Black" is agreat album but a bit too commercialized for me. Their streamlined approach to garnering more fan appeal and developing a larger fan base led to the emergence of those repetitive, catchier, more simplistic rifts that can be found on "Black." But the pre-"Black" stuff is Metallica in their element, more raw and from-the-heart, if you will....before radio air-time constraints and the corrupt record industry began influencing their creativity. Anyway...JMHO.

If I had to work out to a Metallica album it would definately be Master of puppets....now that's all fast!!!

I heard somthing intresting the other week that reminded me when i read this thread. I heard that it is not necessarily good to listen to heavy, loud stuff when you work out becuase it puts an even more strain on you nervous system other the actual lifting. Anyway, i usually go for a dave matthews band cd..live at luther college.

Despite what i just said, i do listen to many heavy stuff, but Live at Luther College is my fav.

Pantera... Vulgar Display of Power.

Hell yeah, that's a kick ass album. "Walk", and "This Love" are two of my all-time favorites. I've pounded lots of iron to that CD over the years. Shit...I remember buying that on tape years ago (yes, cassette tape! bwahahaha) but I eventually bought the CD.

Good choice.

RATM "Evil Empire" is another good one, I have it too but for some reason it's the only RATM CD I've ever bought. Is any of their other stuff good to get you fired up?
