i know yams are a great carbs but are these the same yams that come in a can at walmart in the syrup b/c they have a boat load of sugar? If not what type of yams are u guys talking about eating? thanks

probably talking about a sweet potato... you know... looks like a potato, only not... So i guess they are talking about acutally getting the yam (sweet potato) and cooking it yourself.

Sweet potato =/= yam, though they are similar. We are talking about the actually vegetable, not the 'candy yam' that comes in cans.

Keep in mind that the more you cook or process any carb source the more bioavailable it becomes and the higher its glycemic load/index becomes. that goes for all carbs across the board. less prep, less cooking time, and certainly less processing is ALWAYS better.
