What is it? A 3 day certification workshop including lectures, practical demonstration & written & practical exams.

Who is it for? For the aspiring & experienced fitness professional working one-on-one with exercise clients.

What does it cost? The workshop fee is $429 which includes:
3 day certification workshop
Personal Fitness Trainer Certification Study Guide
One Year AFAA membership
Subscription to American Fitness magazine
AFAA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer certificate & ID card

(The AFAA = Aerobics & Fitness Association of America)

I think that could be interesting if you ever had the urge to do some part-time training. Also just for yourself if you enjoy getting some formal training but no the order of going back to school for a degree. You might find out where that cert is useful though -- i.e. who "accepts" that cert? Is there a test you take it with it? Is it acceptable at gyms in your area or used by particular types of trainers? This will give you an idea of how useful it is if you want to show that as your qualification, say to work at a gym. You also might check and see if they offer any sort of insurance or have any recommendations if any trainer insurance is needed.

I ordered all the stuff for a NESTA training cert, but its a do-it-on-your-own-time thing and I really prefer getting some class time in where I can have the interaction with people and also have a forum for asking questions to give the training some context.

I was thinking it might be interesting at best...... still some $$$ tho....

We don't have very many gyms in our area, so I'm not sure if any would "accept" that cert. and I wouldn't want to work at the Y anyway..... ;)

But the certificate you get + ID card is given upon "successful completion of both examinations. CPR certification req'd before certif. is issued."

wait...you go to a seminar and are automatically certified??

hmmmmmmm

Most basic gyms accept ACE and AFAA. They are pretty well known within the fitness industry.

If you think you would want to do some part-time training, it would be good. If you are just learning how to maximize YOUR personal time in the gym, don't do it. You won't learn anything you can't learn from here.

I am considering *possibly* doing some PT training work -- a guy I know has friends who own gyms in PA..... my gym happened to have the flyer & I just picked it up & looked interesting.....

Just didn't know if it was worth the money, however.....
