Working out in the morning

I recently heard that when working out in the morning, you should wait at least an hour after waking up as your joints are tighter at this time. Is there any truth to this?

Sounds like bologna to me. I've taught 6:00am Spin and Weight lifting and circuit training classes and haven't had a problem. It would seem like the benefits of getting an early workout would outweigh the cons of tight joints anyway.

The studies for this have been done with cadavers actually. You should wait for a bit before doing strength or maximal training work. I'll try to find the studies if you want.

I have been training at 4:30 in the morning for several years. I wake up around 4:00, take some caffeine, and get to the gym around 4:30. I jog for about 7 minutes, do a couple warm up lifts, then I hit it wide open. My joints have never once given me any problem. I'm a 6'2" 215 lbs former college basketball player, so if anyone was going to have joint problems it would be me.

It's probably different for different people, but for me, Thatbloke has the same idea. I wake up about 5:30 or 6, eat breakfast right away, then do all my office work. About 9 or 10, I work out, then shower, and have my lunch. Seems to work best for me that way.

Thanks for all the responses. My biggest concern was if there was any potential health problems from working out too soon after waking up as opposed to whether I will be at my strongest or show the best gains that early. If anyone else has any other input, I would love to hear more opinions on this.

Thanks!
