women just staring!!!

sierra

New member
Ok ladies I have to vent! I, as most of all the real BBW on this board like to push themselves to the max when they are at the gym sweating and adding plates to each set. Do any of the other women there ,yea to work out but, mostly there to be social look at you like you should not be doing all that weight? I was squating 200 last night and I mean all these women just look like WTF. Sometimes I don't know if I should tell them what or you looking at or just ignore them. It does not bother me all the time but when it does........

So WHAT!!

Take it as a compliment. Women love to stare at other women in awe. Getting upset for something you don't even know the reason for is absolutely ridiculous.

There are some gyms that cater to the fluff, but most of the ones I've visited are pretty serious about the goals. Sometimes too serious.

i'd stare too!!! ;)

and if others stare at me, like pooh said, i take it as a compliment and get an xtra pump!

but i hope you do you feel better for venting now.:D

Definitely take it as a compliment. But if they give you that look like "Gawd, I just want to tone - I don't want to look like a man" -- you can always give them the look back "Then what are you doing here girlfriend? Go lift perfume samples at Macy's then."

But seriously -- I think that's just feminine nature. We dont' get dressed up or work our asses off to look our best for guys -- we do it so we can compare ourselves to other women.

Whenever I see a girl putting the 2 1/2 lb plates on the leg press (LMFAO ROTF!) I tell them to "Rack 'em up ladies -- Your body is a wondrous thing - see what it can do!"

Wait! Better yet! Ask if you can work in with them! On your set, you leave the 2 1/2's on and rack up some more 45's and pound out your set. They'll either not want to take the plates off or just leave. HAHAHAHAHA!;)

:rolly:

That's too funny not to respond

Pooh -- no joke that actually happened. These two girls were in the gym - I'd never seen either of them but it looked like one was sort of showing the other what to do. So they put the 2 1/2 lb weights on the sled of the leg press and started doing reps. So I'm trying to time my next 3-4 sets so I can jump on the leg press next.

Well, I've NEVER seen anyone both putting anythign less than the 25's on the leg press. So I said exactly that "Rack 'em up ladies -- your body is a resiliant thing - see what it can do!". The first girl says "I've never been in a gym before." The other girl gives me this look like daggers and says " We're doing high reps, not weight". I was like - why bother??? Your ass weighs more than 5 lbs and you managed to push that up a flight of stairs to get here -- you can probably handle at least the 25s....

It was truly everything I could do to not laugh in her face. I think the girl just didnt' want to look stupid in front of her friend. At least the other admitted to not having a clue.

:D Thanks Ladies I needed the responses, I wish I had more girls going to the gym with an attitude like ours!! I hate to be rude but they will be the ones that will not come back for awhile and I will still be there and I guess they will still be big and out of shape looking like WTF!

Sometimes they're staring in awe (like all those years ago when I saw a woman doing pullups and told myself "someday that will be me...", with some it's jealously (they've seen your body get better and better while theirs stays the same), and others are just plain clueless.

This is bad to say, but it seems like only 10% of the people in my gym actually put in a consistent effort. The other 90% are just going through the motions. Obviously I don't belong to a hard core gym, but this is the 5 AM crowd for pete's sake! They could get a better workout sleepwalking.

LOL, those socialite women at the gym bug me. There is one girl who goes to the bathroom to touch up her makeup in the middle of a workout. What's up with that?

hehe... i don't feel like i've gotten a good workout unless i made some girl curling the 5lb dbs stare at me :)

(not that i care less... it motivates me to show them just what i'm capable of... at least they know i work damn hard for my body)

i stare to cause i cant wait until i can lift as much as those girls are lifting , i went to a gym one day and this tiny girl but buff as sweet was lifting and just sat there and watched her and she new and she walked over to me and said one day hun u will look like this . ........... to tell ya the truth i really dont know how much i can lift i know i can lift with my legs my 220lb fiance off the ground . and thats the gods honest truth .......;)

I notice this too @ my gym. But mostly its because they're a buncha old, wrinkly fat asses. All they do is run through the machines real quick, lift 6# hand weights and move 'em up and down, and walk on the treadmill........like its actually doing something! (But this would lead to another post!) But yeah, mainly its because they admire you and its hard for them to get into some type of schedule because they're too lazy. Keep doin' what you're doin' and fuck 'em..........scream louder, push harder, sweat more, and maybe they'll get motivated to actually do something!;)

I know how you feel, but...

on the flip side, I was at the gym the other day and there was this little bitty thing
benching 225. I didn't even realize I was staring until I noticed her noticing me!
After I went up and complimented her, she kind of blushed and said thanks, but
she probably was feeling a little hostile not knowing that the look was one of
admiration!

Be proud, it's once they stop staring that you should worry!

I've been known to stare...

CAUSE I'M TRYING TO LEARN!!!

Seriously, when I see see someone in great shape, I watch what they're doing so I can LEARN!

It took me years to be brave enough to do free weights, and a lot of staring to figure out how. :)

So, consider it a compliment, and consider yourself a good example.

Also, don't be too hard on the newbies with their 5 pound weights. It doesn't hurt them to learn good form before they start lifting any real weight. When I've been out of the gym for a couple of months, I start out low for the first week or two - keeps me from damaging myself and quitting. In a week or two, I'm adding the weight back on like I never left.

i have NO problem with the gals who use the 5 lb dbs when they're starting out... its just the ones that use 'em day in and day out and wonder why they don't see any results

those are the ones that, IMHO, really need to get a clue... that's why i like to make 'em stare.... they realize that if they want to get hard and lean, they really gotta rack up the weights... (well hopefully they'll eventually realize?) its great if they learn how by watching... and obviously i'm staring around the gym enough to notice people watching me...if someone has good form on an exercise (or really bad form) i'll stare and learn too... every little bit helps...

Well, I know I was one ot the "staring girls" today. I was doing my deadlifts and I finished my set and looked to my left. At there was the biggest, most muscular guy I have ever seen working out two feet from me. My eyes popped out of my head. We were kind of finishing sets close to each other.

Brilliant and blond Starfish says, "your're big" DUHHH!!

It was Ron Coleman and now I feel like such a nerd!!!

Phem,

That would have been funny. Actually, I did not know who he was until I left the gym. I was just bebopping right along side him. Basically, move over big guy I have to rest too. If I had known, I would of fainted.

He does one heck of a leg workout. I felt like I was lifting toothpicks next to him :D :D :D :D

At least I hung in there, huh:D :D

i'm guilty for that (mirroring) i must look like the most egotistical person in the world, but who cares.. hell, i look good and i love watching my muscles work... i've put in sooo much time and effort to get where i am... i'll enjoy every single second of it :)

now, back to mr. o... is he a regular at your gym? you didn't know he worked out there.. hell i'd rearrange my routine to get in the gym when he's there... just to hopefully get caught up in a tiny bit of that kinda energy and drive... i think i'd get pumped just looking at him (not in that way guys... get your mind outta the gutter...)

Phem,

I don't think he is a regular at my gym. I have worked out there since May. It's not like you can miss him. HAHA! My gym is in Texas.

I will ask my trainer (she is pretty awesome herself)

I knew his name was Ron Coleman but I didn't realize he was Mr. Olympia. I looked at his website and it was the same guy. He was working out alone.

He is pretty awesome. Now that I think about it, all the other guys were working out on the other side of the gym. Maybe they were intimidated???
:mix: :mix:

Maybe he can give us some tips :D :D :D

get him on the boards... (hehe... let us edumacate him good :) )

I just can't stand the egos of some women, I have been working out for years, I am an athelete, a played flag football for the military, basketball in high school, college and aau, so I'm use to lifting heavy and working out hard, but whrn women see me squatting 275lbs I guess they assume, well if she can do it so can I. So this girl proceeding to squat 2 45lb plate and 2 25lbs =140 w/the bar weighing 45lbs, well lets just say the EMS was called, because her knees buckled and she could get back up, too bad.

some women don't realize that if you are pilling on the weights, than maybe you have doing this for sometime, not trying to show off, I don't mind the stares, because I go up to them and ask if there is anything I can do for them.

ha! ha! i guess it bothers me sometimes too when people stare...but it all depends on my mood. but i'll admit i'm one of those people that are always starring. i try to learn by watching what other people are doing. also, being a trainer, if i see someone that looks totally clueless and doesnt have stick shoved too far up their ass, i'll go over to them and try to help them out and show them the right way. i'm fascinated by muscles. i like to watch them, big or small.
