Will our metabolism change if we go from 40%bf to lets say 9%?

Ok lets say you were fat at around 30%+ bf and you diet down to a lean and muscular 9% and are working out once a day.You also put on a good 20lbs of lean muscle from your fat old self. Will this then speed up ypur metabolism permanently because you are leaner, more active and carrying a lot more muscle mass? Will it change your bmr so you burn a lot more calories resting than you did when fat?I am guessing your metabolism would be completely different once you are lean. But I also hear people saying that how fast your metabolism has to do with your genetics? :Chef:

yes, your metabolism speeds up ALOT when you get lean and especially when you do such a drastic jump...when you are leaner you have cleaner arteries and veins - meaning oxygen is going through your body swiftly and efficiently providing oxygen needed to perform work from any muscle.

forget the scientific jibberish for a second now...when you are active and do cardio regularly and lift...your heart pumps blood faster than normal and MAINTAINS it fast so you can do strenuous exercises and not feel very tired (builds endurance) - when you're inactive and have high amounts of fat...your heart pumps slower so when you finally DO get up and work out it takes u seconds to break a sweat and start breathing hard...

and yes...metabolism is somewhat determined by your genetics...but like almost everything on your body...you can change that with diet and exercise :)

i have a friend that sits on her ass and listens to music all day and eats alot of JUNK food - way more than me (i weight 176 lbs n am 5'11) - i go the gym 5-6x/week...she doesnt go to a gym or work out she is like 105 lbs n 5'5 and very skinny...i am a little chubby...fair? NO but thats genetics...she has some great genes that allow her body to do their needed processes VERY fast and complete digestion rapidly also...

so to answer your question metabolism IS partially determined by genetics but it's also affected by your level of activity and your diet

these are 11 ways to keep your metabolism very fast and efficient:

1. Always eat breakfast! Skipping breakfast sends the message to your body that you're starving because you haven't had food in 18+ hours. As a protective mechanism, your metabolism slows down. Food, especially complex carbohydrates, fuels your metabolism.

2. Eat earlier in the day! Research has demonstrated that you can lose weight simply by eating a substantial breakfast and lunch, and a light dinner. Dinner should be eaten as early as possible, preferably at least four hours before bedtime.

3. Never eat less than 1200 calories per day! Less than 1200 is usually not enough to support your basal metabolism and thus will slow your metabolism.

4. Snack frequently! Complex carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, and grains) fuel your metabolism. Also, snacking prevents you from becoming too hungry. The hungrier you are, the less control you have over what and how much you eat.

5. Eat more carbohydrates (food from plants), and less fat (food from many animals and other food with added fat)! Carbohydrates boost your metabolism and have fewer calories per weight than fat.

6. Do some type of aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, swimming, stationary cycling, aerobic dancing, etc.) on a daily basis (preferably in the morning)! Forget this twice-a-week stuff. Our bodies were designed to be active on a daily basis! When we are, our metabolism soars!

7. In addition to your regular aerobic exercise, take a brisk 10 to 15 minute walk at lunch or in the evening. This serves to boost your metabolism even more!

8. Tone your muscles with weight training three days per week. Toned muscles send your metabolism through the roof. Do it!

9. Look for situations to be active. Park as far from the store as you can rather than looking for the closest parking spot. Use the stairs rather than the elevator, a broom rather than a blower, etc. Look for the "hard" way to do things!

10. Avoid alcohol! Alcohol depresses your metabolism and stimulates your appetite.

11. Drink 60+ ounces of water a day. Your metabolism needs plenty water to function properly. Carry a bottle of water with you and drink frequently throughout the day.

seeing as how you take care of yourself from what i know about you gym...id say u do at least 8 or 9 of these...maintain what you are doing and your metabolism will stay at an accelerated speed...
