Why I hate doctors

Where do i begin. Hmmmmmm Firstly, theyre rip offs but thats not the reason im posting this.

The reason im posting this is because i tore my meniscus. I have seen a few doctors and they all have nothing but bad things to say about the squat. I saw one today who told me i tore my meniscus by squatting. What a crock of shit. He said that when squatting below parallel you put your meniscus in a very vulnerable position for a tear. Yet i know people who have healed their knees with squats.

Now im confused. Every single article ive ever read regarding a meniscus tear has mentioned something to the effect of side ways impact or a type of pivot. Never not once have i heard of it due to squatting.

You need to see a doctor who isn't a poster child for heart disease (i.e. big and fat) or malnutrition (pencil thin). That is, a doctor who actually takes care of his body and is knowledgeable when it comes to these types of matters and won't make unsubstantiated claims just to avoid getting sued.

Where to find one? I have no idea. I had to rely on EF to help me with my bulging lumbar disc after my doctor told me I should never play golf, squat, or deadlift again. 18 months later I'm deadlifting and squatting more than ever. As for golf... HAH! Let's see someone shoot 130 with a bad back. =)

I had a doctor tell me it was risky to deadlift without a weight belt, and anything over my bodyweight should automatically get a weight belt for safety.

So while the rest of my body gets stronger and stronger I should keep the weight belt on because of the hernia risk. It really makes sense though, because if I use the weight belt I will be too weak to DL big weights. I mentioned using it for maximal lifts and moving up the "belt weight" as I get stronger- but he held steadfast that it should be used above XX pounds at all times.

there's nothing 'wrong' with using a weight belt, but always putting it on at 100lbs (example) is not how to use it. Obviously you already know that. Most people use the belt as an excuse to have horrible DL form. I use it for overhead work and squats, thats it.

Find a sports medicine doctor. Might need a referal though. I just ask my boss, he runs a clinic.

I wouldn't use a weight belt on anything less than a maximal triple, but that's just me.

Suck as much air into your stomach as you can and then tense your abs hard while holding the air in.

You have now created your own internal weight belt.

yup, general practice medicine is all about dealing with kids runny noses and keeping the pharm companies happy by pushing as many pills as possible on the old folks.

you can't expect the average one to understand or care about your (in their eyes) self inflicted problems.

You need a sports medicine doctor some orthpedics may be able to help you as well. but again find a young md that is in fairly good shape.
