WHY I DO IT
I do it for the stares, when they look at me.
I do it for the mirror, and what I hope to see.
I do it for children, who giggle when I flex my chest.
I do it for my family, who knows I look my best.
I do it for the blood, Coursing through Viking veins,
I do it for the pump, And that feeling of insane.
I do it for the women, though those days are soon past,
I do it from the heart, Forever may it last.
I do it in the gym, where I'll always feel so free.
I do it for the love of the sport, and what it's done for me.
I do it when I'm feeling down, it always makes me soar.
I do it when I feel the pain, And when I beg for more.
I do it because others can't; they cannot feel the desire,
I do it for my restless soul, to one day quench the fire.
I do it with determination, for that driving need.
I do it for the fear, that I may not ever succeed.
I do it for that special someone, who knows I love her.
Most of all I do it for me ...
Cause I Wanna Be A Big Mother Fucker!

why I did it
What motivated Ranger to write the poem "Why I Do It", must have came from all the people telling him time and time again, that he's obsessed with the gym. I truly believe that "obsession", is just a word that the lazy use to describe the dedicated. It's as simple as that. By definition, obsess is to occupy or engage the mind of something or someone to an inordinate degree. So who is to say what an inordinate degree is? People often ask us why we do it. So I think his poem was constructed to help people know exactly what goes on inside our heads. What feeds the motor to produce the energy that allows us to make it to the gym, day in and day out? Why we care so much, and what the world of fitness as offered us over the years. Well, hopefully Rangers poem clearly got the message across. But if it didn't, then let me take this one step further.
What some people will never know, is that it goes so far beyond just making your body look better. You can't just look at it like that. It's so important to understand some of the other rewards that come with developing a physique that you are comfortable or happy with. The Greeks thousands of years ago, believed that when you strengthen your body and muscles, you strengthen your mind. A lot of people today just don't make sense to me. They'll produce the time and the money to take care of their car, house, dog, yard, or what ever. Doesn't it make more sense to focus on the one thing that you can never escape? The thing that you'll never sell or throw away; the thing that is attached to you all the time and carried around for others to see. Now one might say that this is just pure vanity. Well if working out is vanity, then why isn't washing your car consider the same? Similar scenario right?
Another thing I hear people say is that working out doesn't mirror the acts of our other fellow mammals. Therefore, because animals don't work out, it is not an act of natural doing. Well guess what people, your wrong. Take the white tail deer for instance. They spend hours a day rubbing their antlers against trees in order to strengthen and build their neck muscles. They do this so they can compete with bigger and stronger male bucks that are after the same mate as they are. So ultimately the biggest buck takes home the prom queen. Now although the world today isn't really based on women who choose the biggest and most muscular men, this simply points out that the act of exercise may very well be an instinctive trait that we inherit. If exersise instinct doesn't knock you over the head day in and day out like it does to me, well then maybe it all comes down to personal preference. Every man has the right to choose what he does with his time. All I can really ask is, before you mock me for showing my love and passion to the world of fitness, why don't you give it a try. Just think about how proud you will feel when you look at yourself and see the result of your efforts. Forget about everything else for a few minutes. Think only of your future vision. You have to feel your physique taking shape. Imagine other people seeing you with your new body. See them seeing you. Listen to what they're saying. Feel the surge of energy and pride.
