Why does anyone buy those crappy BB magazines?

CYCLEON

New member
Just went past the local mag store and was browsing through all of the fitness and BB rags - I normally dont read them anymore, hardly looked at them for the last couple of years. Now I was at a loss as to any reason at all to purchase one - their info is all the same BS. A few new training tips - but im pretty happy with what im doing and most of them are the same old bs, repackaged. There are a huge number of adds for a bunch of crap i know doesnt work or isnt as cost effective as juice. there are some pictures of some huge mofos or human interest stories that can be inspiring but im really not looking for the freakish big look (i like to still wear clothes). Any information on the science of BB or gear I find out much more thoroughly here on these boards. now, most of these mags are reduced to T&A, soft porn basically, and I must say there are some fine girlies in there indeed! but if i need that kind of mag, playboy is better IMO. so, in summary, there is no new info that i cant get more in depth, here - the BB pics are cool but not what im going for - the chickies are fine but so are playbunnies - so the only reason to buy a mag is to let the supp companies choke me with adds for which they will pay the BBs in the picture a very tiny sum, so that they can buy their next cycle. Why dont they call it "Elle" or "Redbook" for Body Building? I realize that there are poor souls out there that still believe what bill phillips tells them but for the enlightened, can anyone give me a decent reason. besides pictures of chicks (did i mention how fine they were?;) ) that anyone should part with $3-5???

Sad but true......sometimes the pics can be used to motivate and they really pass time while sittin on the toilet :toilet:

I'll tell you what, most suck, but I like Musclar Developemnt. Very honest and there steroid talk is up to date.

I haven't touched them in years either, but I have to admit I read FLEX for 2 years solid and never would have gotten into bodybuilding without it. One day I saw a picture of Arnold back in the day and thought, "I want that to be me." The rest is history.

I thought it was for the fitness chick porn???

I'm also really motivated by the 17 page ads for HydroxyCut...

I have an Ironman subscription and I really like it! I find it kinda inspiring. Sure there is a lot of advertising, I just ignore it and thats it. Bottom line Im happy with my mag. :)

I like FLEX. I like to read all the b.s. claims in the supp. ads. about giving great gains, you gotta admit that it does make for a great laugh.:teleport: :teleport: :teleport:

I have a subscription to Flex.

I buy it for the pics of the Pros, the contest coverage and the gossips section.

My life is bodybuilding so I get my hands on has much bb material as I can.

Before the internet, and boards like these, It was all I could do to keep up with new techniques in nutrition and training. Believe it or not, but back in 93 when Muscle Media first came out, it was a great mag! It had no ads, a ton of steroid info, and great training programs. Then, a couple of years later, they all went to shit. The ads started with Muscle-tech in Muscle Mag. They then took over all the mags. If you notice, each major magazine has a product that they have vested interest in of which they try to promote throughout the magazine. The only time I read these mags anymore is when I'm on the treadmill at the gym. They provide material to pass the time. Thank god for the internet and boards like these!!! They save us money and give us unbiased info.:D

Muscle Mags are great to read if it is someone else's copy such as in a Barber Shop or a gym.

I don't mind spending money on Men's Health though, as a matter of fact I have a subscription. They have a lot of good training, grooming, diet and sex articles that make good reading, and always some real humorous stuff. I have a whole stack in my bathroom.

well if you read muscel mag then you know Cell-Tech is 1950 %better than any other creatine on teh market and the pro's gain 15 lbs in 30days on it.. so is this the stuff they take in teh offseason or what? (laugh) thats why tehy are so much bigger than everyone else at my gym. (haha)

yeah - i remember when muscle media was pretty informative (so i thought) - and the first few issues of PUMP, with the Duchaine interviews and such I used to really like - but nobody seems to have that stuff anymore - its all on the net - they only have ripped guys and stripped gals for your viewing pleasure. I agreee its good for the crapper but I got better things to spend my $$$ than to pay to have them tell me why their worthless supplements are so hot.

If you're into the sport of pro bodybuilding, FLEX magazine has pretty good coverage. Aside from the magazines there's no where to really get this information from. You never see bodybuilding coverage in the newspapers or TV.

But all the propaganda ads for the useless supplements does get old. Especially Musclemag.

I agree with Chaos5000. five years ago, when i had the muscle mass of a wheelchair bound marathon running homosexual (135 lbs), i read those mags like the bible. now of course they just sit in my closet. although Widi is right, Ironman is a good one.

My local magazine store orders the American version of Flex for me (I'm in Austria, Europe), and I often read it at night before I go to sleep. Most of the training tips are complete and utter nonsense, but it's still just fun to read and a good way to take my mind off other stuff and relax... I'm also in marketing and often admire how the supp companies do such a great job of promoting useless stuff.

the mags are great for passing time at borders or barnes and nobles, while drinking coffee. Otherwise, they are useless..catalogues for supplement companies. Since the Internet, I am sure that mag subscriptions are way down.

There's nothing like sitting on the shitter and reading a 37 page muscle-tech ad on Greg Kovacs - the world's largest bloated synthol mass. Kinda keeps the bowels moving!:toilet:

lol double d, that cracked me up bro. but i definetely agreed with whoever said they're great while on a coffee break. I think we all admit we like to read the crap in the mags every once in a while. at least I do.

Most of the mags are shit!!!!! The only one I see lately that has possiblities is Muscular Development. They have written 3-4 articles a month for the last 2 months on AS. Some are not bad.. Apparently, if you read their last editorial they are taking a new attitude toward AS. They now believe they should educate so people will not go blindly into danger. Sort of remincent of the old Muscle Media.

if you want to get away from the advertisements you could always read planet muscle, jeff eversons mag. he dosent accept any outside advertising, and his mag is free i think. ive only read one issue though, and the bb stuff was good but no a.s. info to speak of.

just my .02 bros......................:D

MD has some good info on diet and good articles about gear... I'm out on the other mags though, i used to buy flex all the time... Now I see/know that most of the crap in there is hype...
