Why do you guys want to diet / get cut?

G'day mates, I'm from down under and new here. I'm wondering what is it that makes women and men want to get cut or diet? Is it only a sexual or self-ego thing or is there more? Why do we train our bodies so hard? Also, where does this idea to diet come from- are we influenced by the media as all the tabloids say or is that not the entire story? Do you guys consult professionals or stick to message boards like me- I'd be interested in all your replies.

Depends on our goals, and most of our goals are different...For the BBers on the board, we cut to show off the muscle we've gained over our bulking cycles, or for shows, sexual appeal, or just to look good for ourselves..
 
i am cutting, cause I don't want to look like crap at beach and I want my girlfriend to think im sexy, even though she says she already thinks I am, but I always try to improve myself for her.
 
I want to be cut enough to where I look like someone with whom not to fuck. Not that I could actually kick someone's ass, but I'd at least like to look like I could. That and I think thin skinny weak-ass chicks are lame.
 
I started dieting because Iwas at 257 pounds somewhere between 30 and 40% body fat. I had a 42 inch waist and was dangerously close to having to shop at the big and tall guys shop, oh no!!! I was lifting a lot and really was having trouble finding the muscle I was creating :). I am now under 200 pounds, and to be honest I am scared as hell at gaining back the weight I lost. As far as the diet goes, I read some message boards, talked to a professional or two, but when it came down to it, it was trial and error. I finally found the correct balance or protein\carbs\fat that worked for me.
 
I'm doing it to get/stay lean. Now, I'm not one that would go for that "shredded" look, but we all know carrying extra fat is unhealthy. Once you start improving your body composition, you feel healthier, are able to do more athletic activities for longer periods of time etc...
 
Contest - I like competing and I like winning even more -
I love lifting but playing lineman has ruined my knees so strongman, and powerlifting are out!

Its all part of the process, the journey - and the SUCCESS
