Why do females take steroids?

Give your opinion, personal or otherwise. I'm really curious....and no sarcasm here on my part so don't go off telling me what the fuck's it to you? or somethin. I simply find it perplexing....to me it'd be like a guy taking estrogen pills. I can understand taking juice for a certain medical reason, but other than that, why do women try to look anything other than feminine?

I'll be back later.

Seriously, I have no f'n idea...
all I know is most scare the crap outta me when they open their mouths.
Their voices are f'n deepr than mine... :worried:

all things in moderation...including moderation...a little goes a long way.
i like it so long as they stay fem.

a woman who takes steroids does not appeal to me whatsoever
nasty

I think women who take gear fit into three categories.

One is the woman who mistakenly thinks it will lower her bodyfat. This is generally your high schoolers or ladies who take whatever their boyfriend aor husband thinks will work.

Two is the cautious type that researches, finds the least androgenous gear available (var and primo) and takes it to help cut or bulk depending on their goals. Mostly figure/fitness models.

Three is the ovaries to the wall, nothing is too much gal who likes the well muscled look and wasn't happy with their results from var or primo. I would think these would be your power lifters.

Caveat: I've never taken gear, so this is all my opinion. :)

it just doesn't fit my perception of womanlyness
i hear you...i dont mind a little extra muscle or hardness...it really doesnt concern me as long as they dont go overboard...ive been with Hardcore female BB's before...bodies are insane, but to each their own...im attracted to the fitness look, or even a little on the thicker side...not like Hammy tho!!...no plumpers for me....

not all steroids have testosterone is them..so your analagie of a man on estrogen isnt correct...

Im sure women take steroids for the same reason men do. Strenght,,Apprearence...competition

you know what i mean buff bagwell.
under your logic my dad is a juicehead because he takes persribed steroids for colon inflamation

I would say the woman BBers are caught into a vicious cycle. It's like they have to take steriods cuz the "look" of their sport requires a certain look, a certain amount of muscle, etc. And until the "rules" officially change and that look is no longer acceptable, then the big manly woman will still be around.....

slat1 said:

Yep. I've spent the last 7 months trying to turnback the damage done from those damn pills.

I can see where one would be tempted. Besides the fact that I haven't been training long enough, the risks far outweigh the rewards. My body builds and retains muscle really well. However, I'm sure I will plateau, w/ regard to what I can lift and even how lean I can get. But that's okay, I want to be an attorney not a fitness/figure model. I will just deal with what mother nature has given me (the good and the bad).

Btw, I also have a lady friend in the industry...

Do a search here for Carrie Pullaro, and tell me what ya think.

That depends on the person. I think both are a gamble.

The hormones from BCPs really messed me up. It would have to be a life or death situation for me to take those again.

do any of the pro figure girls appeal to you?

honestly?

I would bet that 1/10 have used some form of steroid. Not gone overboard with it.. but low mild doses.

some go way overboard I agree but some know their limits

this is why I did a cycle... I wanted to bring down my bodyfat and went on a pretty extreme cutting cycle for about 3 months.. I had done a bulking cycle prior to that and I had put on about 5 pounds of muscle naturally... so that being said I didn't want to turn around and lose what I so deperately worked so hard for by low calories and training hard... I was doing 2 cardio sessions per day and weight training keeping my calories under 1000 per day... so if I didn't use the steriods I would have eatten up my muscle... but it was better then just keeping the muscle I actually gained 5-8 pounds of muscle while I was cutting... that is CRAZY if you ask me.... I have about 120 of lean mass and that is good for my body I would like to possibly put on a couple more pounds but I can do that naturally.. so I did a cycle of primo and var.....

will I do it again? probably not because I see no need to now... Now I just have to maintain and keep lean...

Case in point.

I could care less who chooses to use steroids as long as they're educated about what they're putting in their body. To each his/her own. I fail to see why it's any of my business what someone else's goals are.

What my own goals are aren't what someone else's will be. That doesn't make either of our goals wrong.

what about the gym idiots you posted about? The old thread I bumped? It appeared that it was your business then...you seemed to think their goal was pretty wrong

1/10 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy UNDERestimating. If they are pro and COMPETITIVE, they have used. There MAY be 1 out of 50 that have not used something. I am talking about those competing at the Figure Olympia and such. In order to be competitive, you use. Pure and simple.

I can guaran-damn-tee you that any figure competitor you are drooling over has used SOMETHING.

Tru dat. Please tell me that she knew that she was getting herself into and you just didn't bump into her with a needle...

most of the time, women on steroids is a horrible thing...they get very manly looking and gross..

but, if they do it right (like with low-dose var or primo as opposed to test, etc.),,they can look good and still look feminine...

1/10?????

lol, you sweet, sweet, innocent girl

Female bb's have never appealed to me, but then I know plenty of females who think male bb's are disgusting as well.

Perspective.

Using roids for sports, for monetary gain. Do what you can I guess.

if it looks like they could bend you over and make you (the guy) take it like a bitch....well, probably they went a little overboard with it

problem with steroids is that LOT of people see them as a shortcut towards "instant gratification"... that is, it is very rare the people that starts ONLY after they have reached their natural max... people don't have the patience anymore, they want to be 250lbs, 6% in 1 year.

I don't think that is a problem. They can be used for many things including a shortcut to bigger and better.

Just like my lotto winnings. Ahmen.

you mix that with poor education and NIL research and you do have a problem.

I read about it everyday in the diet board

I agree. While I have admiration for anyone who can sculpt their body like FBB and MBB, I do not like the look at all. Neither appeal sexually to me.

You don't know the whole story. First, we had been married 19 years. And I was on a bout 750mg of sust a week. I was like a dog in heat. And after 19 years wives aren't in to given it up 2 or 3 times a day. So I thought heck just give her some and we would be little rabbits like when we were first married.

there's not one specific way of being a "woman". feminine isn't synonymous with small, fragile and co-dependent. i find big muscle on both men and women HOTT!! maybe it's also down to the self confidence that seeps out of every pore when you look like you want to look like?

then why is it that this self-confidence is so fleeting? It seems the self confidence you talk of is always in the close future, if i get 10 more lbs, or if my bicep grows by 1/2 inch, then I will be confident...nothing for nothing, the bb'ers i have met personally strike me as some of the most insecure peeps I have ever met.

good point, whilst that maybe true for a number of bb's esp male, to hide their insecurities behind a bigger body and be more male. i think it takes a lot more balls ;) (literally) for a woman to be heavily muscular and go against the sterotyped image of femininity. i dont know that many big bb women, but the one's i do seem more than comfortable in their own skin. maybe there's a powerlifting element to that too. strength is easier to measure than beauty.
i think there's a big difference between people who do it for love of the sport and people who do it just to get laid more. it's the latter group that have to turn and point the finger and say "you are disgusting and unfeminine" it's like everyone only has a social status dependant on their desirability...

All ladies who compete on stage, whether it's figure, body building or fitness, apply the make up with a trowel...just think of it as stage make up.

You have to match the protan color and make sure you don't look washed up on stage.

Trust me, we don't choose to, but rather have to. And it feels awfull and we are all happy after the show when we can finally take a shower and get rid of all the make up, protan, 1/2 hair spray bottle and everything.

Not only pro, ladies, if you are considering competing at national level, you gotta juice up to stay with the pack.

So...To compete at top 10 National Level implies that you 1) juice up and 2) have implants.

Implants are  I used to not care back when I was a kid, but now that I know more about them I have zero interest in them. Although some of them can look pretty real if they're proportionate....but it's still a trick. It's along the same lines of fake tans.

How each person perceives such things though is the bottom line.

Very true. My post was not clear - that is what I was meaning - competing at the Nat'l level AND pro. I was not clear. :) Thank you for pointing that out. :)

Oh I'm sure there are a precious few pros who DON"T use. I also think you'd be suprised who does use just in the world in general. To Gambino -- what you perceive as "womanly" could have been chemically enhanced and you just don't know it.

Why do women use steroids? Well, let's take a look at who might be using:

- obviously professional FBBs. with the direction judging has gone since the "golden era" of BB (e.g. late 80s) it is essentially a requirement to compete.
- fitness competitors -- pretty damn hard to compete into your 30s with the intensity and leanness that these girls do. You will probably start seeing fitness suffer as a sport relative to figure because of the intense requirements.
- figure competitors -- because just as FBB went further and further into the big / hard look, IMO figure is probably going continue to edge in that direction as the number of competitors increases, the need for some sort of edge to stand out in this sport that is based entirely on a couple minutes on stage doing nothing but quarter turns and look as photogenic and aethetically pleasing as possible. Other directions you see are the amount of bling on the suits, etc.
- athletes looking for the extra edge for more strength, speed, endurance, etc. with greater recovery time, etc.
- older women looking for some help in maintaining lower bodyfat, etc. fighting the effects of aging
- women looking for increased libido
- younger women looking to get that extra edge early if they wish to pursue a competition-based career
- women who depend on their bodies / looks for a career -- e.g. the "beach body", models, etc.
- women who need to recovery quickly and maintain an particular look for extended periods of time for photo shoots, etc.
- women looking to get an edge in recovering from injuries

The easy target is those who "abuse" steroids and end up looking extremely masculine. But these things are available and w/ the internet, there is more knowledge of them and even easier access, so people will use them for many different purposes. As stated above, HOPEFULLY they will be very informed before they decide to use AAS to achieve whatever their goals are, but I think you would be very suprised as to who uses and the statement of "I think women who use steroids are nasty" is all based on your perception of what a steroid user looks like.

I find it very unfortunate that this society is sending a message stating that you must have cleavage if you want to make it in the industry. :(

I agree with you!!

It's amusing that the competitor guide for the Federation of my 1st show specifically states that the judges are NOT to consider breast size when judging...... yeah right....

Breasts are the epitome of "femininity". Any person judging a female on her looks is going to be biased by that. REGARDLESS of what the guidelines say.

Intelligent reply.

Several of the uses mentioned above have to do with quality of life improvement and longevity. Therapys in these cases can enhance femininity, relieve pain and extend a healthy and vibrant life.

Well, this thread started out retarded, then the intelligent posts came and saved it. I gotta say it again, there are way more chicks taking steroids than you would think.

Taking roids does not = Huge bodybuilder chicks only. Some people are very misled. It's pretty difficult for a woman to gain and keep muscle while losing bodyfat to look the way they do in the magazines, be it fitness or BB (especially BB of course). "Help" is everywhere. EVERYONE is doing it. Women and men. Feminine women and men.

I love muscles on women. VERY sexy.

Extreme are gross

Wether it is a skinny anorexic girl or a heavily juiced female freak

Awsome post, Gonelifting! A lot of folks assume that because a girl gets a little help, she is going to suffer the effects of virilization. They probalby base their opinions on the BB ladies, without understanding that dosage and type of roid will make a huge difference on whether you grow chin hair or remain cute and feminine. Cautious dosing and careful monitoring are most important.

Someone I know says that most guys (or at least guys worth the time of a smart and independent woman) do think that strong is sexy.
