Klue - that is like asking "why are women psychohosebeasts"? Just kinda the genetics of it all. Here is the simple breakdown:

Men - want to screw as much as they can to spread their seed
Women - want to have multiple babies by a partner (or SMALLER community of partners) who will take care of them and their babies.

Two different natural objectives create some of the most volitile relationships in history. Ah well - such is our lot in life. .

I hate to be devil's advocate - but you may only be hearing his point of view from your friend (who will only be hearing what he wants her to hear) or from him while he KNOWS you are her friend (so he will only tell you what he wants her to hear). we're all "peckerheads",males and females..at 41 I've figured this out,but like 2clueless,I'm too honest with my feelings..but then again I've broken far more hearts then I have had mine broken(mine has scar tissue,which as you know heals over stronger than the original tissue)..you have to go into each new relationship armed with the knowledge you have from the past,but don't let it color your view of the new endeavor...books have been written about this stuff..and I've read none of them..I just know what "feels" right in a relationship
