did your mom dress you funny?

how?

My mom used to get me big, weighty bovver boots with strict instructions to kick them where it hurts at the first sign of trouble.

I was the oldest kid, so I never had to wear hand-me-down stuff.

My parents did pull out some goofy stuff - more my Dad than my Mom. My Mom seemed to understand that there was some requirement to present yourself to an audience of peers.

My Dad - now that dude had no understanding of any of that shit, and going shopping with him was to be feared.

When you've always had a pretty face like mine it never mattered what I wore.

My sister and I are less than 2 years apart, yet we look exactly alike. My mother felt the need to dress us alike, but in different colors. I always wore shades of blue and my sister wore shades of pink.

The worse had to be the sweatshirts w/ nicknames. Mine said "Cupcake" and my sister's said "pumpkin."

Who wore yoda underoo's

when i was very little, my mom used to make my clothes. that was kind of embarrasssing. instead of clothes shopping for school, we would go shop for "patterns": at JoAnn Fabrics. wtf. the cruel 70s.

my 1st day of 1st grade was a denim jumper with a big pocket on front with reb felt letters spelling out my first name (she wanted to make sure everyone knew who the fuck I was)

I'm sure you beat it into them pretty quickly.

or this blue polyester dress with pleats in the front.UGH

Yea there was really no way around the 70s styles. But then everyone looked stupid & I wasn't old enough to worry about trying to look sexy in that crap.

However the shoulder pads of the 80s didn't do much for getting laid either.

The minimalism of the rave scene in the late 90s in South Beach was pretty productive tho ;)

Blue means she wanted a boy.

Those 80's shoulder pads were the worst. I was in a restaurant and saw this guy and gal eating. He was sitting there staring over at her with a look of disdain....then after a moment he reached out and without a word, pushed down on her shoulder pad about 3 times then put his hand back on the table. Neither one of them said anything and I just burst out laughing...

I had my share of hated clothes that my mom picked out. Corduroy slacks, WHITE denim jeans, v-neck tshirts, shirts with horrid patterned fabric, and there was this nasty red vinyl jacket in the 8th grade. I still bear the mental scars that jacket caused.

Oh GOD YES! I still have nightmares about this red turtleneck polyester shirt that my mom made me wear. I was miserable all day long every day that I had to wear it (about once a week). When I was around 9, all I would wear was Toughskin blue jeans and cotton t-shirts.

Didn't read the thread, but LMAO at Wootooms avatar!!!

I got hand me downs from two older brothers. Hell yeah I looked like a geek I suppose.

It was the 70's, what else is needed to be said.

The big difference is that the adults had choice, like we do now, but as kids the 70's was evil in the clothes department for me. Atleast kids now have a range of products that actually look smart, to both adults and fellow kids.

there exist pictures of me in a tiny sailors uniform. Like the guy who scrubs the deck on a navy boat.

I also had huge bright coloured glasses and a mushroom haircut.

she made me wear dresses every friggin day and she parted my hair and put stupid barrets in it

not only did she dress me funny. you should have seen some of the hair styles. When I would not keep my head still she would smack me in the head with the hair brush. (ouch)
