When Knees Clank whilst Squatting..........

gizzle

New member
Hi, maybe you guys can help me... Well I have my client doing shoulder width squats and for some reason, I hear alot of weird sounds emanating from her knees as she goes up and down. So I had her try taking a wider stance, and I always tell her to keep her knees pointed outward along with her toes, and to never wobble her knees. Her form seems to be decent, but still I hear those sounds! :worried: What could she be possible doing wrong?? I mean I don't want to injure the poor lady...Any suggestions??

As long as there is no pain associated with the snap, crackle, pops - your client should be fine.

If there is any pain with it, find a different stance or different exercise.

I am assuming that she warms up with loads of lighter squats?

Tami is quite correct, as long as there is no pain, it isn't an issue.

I would check her diet to make sure she is getting adequate vitamins and minerals, the metallurginase enzymes that help to synthesis collagen require metal ion co-factors and vitamin C.

My toes "pop" when I walk from arthritis. My knees pop and snap when I do anything. No pain so I don't worry about it. So far so good!

What is "vmo"?

And Tami, no she doesn't feel pain @ all. And she has never had a knee problem her entire life

vastus medialus oblique. the muscle on the inside portion of the knee that keeps the legs from collapsing in while squatting down. probably should have said the tear drop.

Look into some basic joint supps, sounds like her ligaments are rubbing over and causing the sound. No pain is a good thing. But joint support can't hurt and it is very very cheap.

the noises are a problem. as with any problem ignoring it will eventually make it worse. i 100% disagree with the if there is no pain forget about it theory. fix the problem instead of ignoring it. problems like this one are the ones that lead to the crippling injuries 10-20 years down the road.
