When do i fit in my meals?

hey everyone...i'm going to try a new diet that i've been thinking of combining a lot of different ideas from alot of you smart members here...i was thinking in the morning to eat a few (2-3) egg whites (with no bread :() maybe with a protein shake

then for lunch i could have an albacore can of tuna (with nothing - no bread/mayo/etc)

and for dinner i can have some very lightly breaded chicken from costco (woohoo) with maybe a few mushrooms with it...(1 of the only veggies i like)

i was wondering if this is ENOUGH of an intake to keep my body in good condition and building muscle if im doing cardio about 3x/week and lifting about 3x/week? im like a millimeter shy of 6 feet tall...and i weigh about 175-178 (varies). and the most important question i have...is IF this is a good diet WHEN should i eat these meals?

i currently wake up at 9... leave for the gym at 9:30 (with no meal before i go) - workout about an hour and come home at 11. then i usually make 3 eggs and take my protein shake. Then i relax and so some summer project work for a few hours then around 2:30-3 i eat lunch which is usually white rice/ some meat or chicken (which i am going to stop) and then around 6 or so i eat dinner (usually left overs from lunch or a sandwich with cold cuts)

so i was wondering...if i substitute my new diet for this old 1...should i keep the same time frames? or is it crucial to eat something BEFORE my workout? or should i eat right before AND right after? i don't know...kinda confused...

any advice would be appreciated - thanks :)

You're extremely tall and weigh close to nothing for your height, why are you killing yourself with something so low on cals AND low in carbs? No, this diet won't work. Not unless you'd like to die mentally/physically in a matter of a day. That is *my* personal opinion. If you've hit a very bad plateau, it's a diff. story. However, I still wouldn't advise it. I'd rather suggest having a piece of whole wheat bread in the morning or with tuna, rather than breaded chicken from costco. Regardless, the cals are TOO low. Females are at their lowest at 1200, men at 1800. You're looking like 1200 at this point.

really? i'm not scronny or anything at all...my body is like - you can see muscle and stuff obviously there...but theres a layer of fat over everything...like if i lost 20 lbs fat i'd look ripped...but right now no...so i thought i'd need to cut cals + keep up with my weight training to do this...

i wouldn't be starving myself or anything...a few egg whites with a big shake would fill me up well in the morning

and each breaded chicken thing is about 125 cals (i usually eat 4) - so that's a good amount of cals i thought...

But the breaded chicken is BREADED. high gi carbs late in the day. High in sodium too - it's costco. Beg the chicken isn't processed either. 20lbs or 40lbs, you'll fail using a shortcut. There is a difference between being full and starving yourself. If you're full with that amount of food - that is absolutely fine. What you need to do is break your meals down into 5 or 6 smaller ones. So if you're full at one, finish it at another. Or rather (in your case) add about 3 more meals. You should never eat just protein or just carbs in one meal, but put them together to add nutrients and slow digestion. Any one food group will digest in a matter of about an hour to an hour 1/2. I suggest adding more unprocessed carbs, esp. early in the day and cutting them at night. I also suggest taking a look at your workout regime and whatnot... sometimes diet isn't particularly to blame. I think your problem is unknowingly putting your body into starvation mode on some unhealthy foods.. even if it's breaded chicken. 4 of those every night will add up VERY quickly.

Put all foods into a food database like FITDAY.COm and see how many cals you consume. A large egg white is 16 cals and a can of tuna is barely 170 (at most). You're eating less than you think, I assure you. Never overeat, just break it up. The more meals, the more efficiently your metabolism will function.

what are some good "unprocessed carbs" to add to my diet? what should i be checking out at the market besides brown rice? (im gonna pick that up soon)

Whole flaked oats (steel cut oats are best; flaked meaning non instant), as many green veggies as possible, if you like potatoes - red skinned and new potatoes are good in moderation. as many different types of beans as possible. whole grain bread (wheat, rye). they also make bran and flax bread if you can find them, they are best. Yams, sweet potatoes, lowfat/fatfree yogurt (a bit processed but cultures are still good, they aid stomach), high fiber cereals (also a bit processed, but some are extremely natural because they are made from whole grains - DEFINITELY VISIT A HEALTHFOOD STORE FOR THIS ONE). If you don't mind, the supermarket will have a few good picks too - fiberone, all bran (there are three variaties), wheaties, etc. Just check labels. Any other grain such as barley or cream of wheat is also accepted.

Maybe this a rule when you grocery shop and never forget it - anything with more than one ingredient, or in other circumstances - an ingredient you can't pronounce should stay out of your diet. :)
