I know that not all Wheat Bread is what it is advertised to be, but when looking at the ingredients what names should I be watching out for to make sure i'm buying good stuff. or if you know a brand of wheat bread that you trust that would be helpful too

the only true whole grain bread i have found is ezekiel bread. it comes frozen. all of the breads in a super market are at least 30% sinple carbs. ezehiel bread is 100% complex carb. i make my own bread with ground oats as my flour source and splenda for the sweatener and i cut the salt by 60%. it tastes better than ezekiel but is still is not quite as healthy.

The refined wheat breads will say
Enriched wheat flour or Bromated wheat flour

The unrefined wheat breads will say whole wheat flour

in india we make wheat bread in a simple way and call it roti.

we mix wheat flour with little water and make wheat balls out of it

then we press the ball to flat one's like a pizza bread.

then we place the preparation on a pan and dry roast it for few minutes on each side on low flames. Thats it - we make two or three of those for carbs

this is called as ROTI

And the time consumption will be less than 10 minutes to make 3 of those. Usually one roti will contain 40g of wheat (add salt and little EFA oil to make the preperation tasty and more healthy)

cheers

I've been eating quite a bit of Ezekiel bread lately. It's good stuff.

Can Ezekiel bread be bought at any regular grocery store? And it will be in the frozen section? Also, is it more expensive than other bread?

There are a few good brands in the UK, The Village Bakery (their spelt bread is fantastic), The Food Doctor, and Prince Charles' Duchy Originals is quite good too.

Ezekiel is great if you can find it, or you can also buy sprouted wheat bread or German rye bread.

German Rye (or other non-wheat breads) are dark brown and in the shape of a small brick.
