What's Your Opinion on Elderly Drivers?

PaleHorse

New member
People are always talking about "younger folks" being bad drivers, but to me it's the older generation (65 and up) that truly doesn't belong on the road. Now, this doesn't mean everyone of them are bad drivers, but many of them are deadly as hell. I travel a 2 lane hwy often with a 55 mph speed limit and there they are, goin 40-45 prompting everyone who pulls behind them to pass(which on a 2 lane hwy with log trucks and other heavy machinery is a BITCH!). I believe when a person turns a certain age, say 60-65 it should be mandatory that they have to pass their driving test once again! Anyone agree?

My opinion of elderly drivers?

I hope to be one, one day.;)

I think everyone needs to retake the test every 10 years.

I think some elderly drivers are a fucking menace. so are some drivers 17 years old. And so are some 32. I think people should be tested more often. And people under 18 shouldnt be able to drive. Over 40,000 people die and thousands more are permanantly injured or maimed because of poor driving. Fuck that. If the media televised how each person died every day in a similar way the whole anthrax scare was portrayed there would be a fucking panic across the country.

60-65 years of age!?!?!?!

Hey Big.......we ain't that far from it!!!! :lmao:

About 20 more years!

Many elderly drivers are not fit to drive - much like many teen drivers are unfit to drive, and actually, many <older than teen, younger than elderly> people are also unfit to drive.

Instead of wasting time and money and going through legal hoop-lah to get a specific group of drivers off the road, we should attempt to enforce traffic laws more strongly that deal with cases such as DUIs, reckless driving, and habitual traffic offenders that have been at fault for accidents. Stop wasting time with people rolling through stopsigns on rarely travelled streets, taking redlights after stopping first at 3am, and doing a few miles over the speed limit. Spend more time focusing on the bad drivers and get them off the road, and I guarantee we'll see a decline in complaints about bad drivers.

Totally, those stupid old people are fucking everything up. They need to stay home and watch Matlock instead of drive.

When I was younger, the family (myself included) would find old drivers, jack their car, stab them with a pitchforck and toss them into the street for the weekend bonfire.

Shake it up.

Need a law that if you're going below the speed limit and there are cars behind you, you should pull off the road every mile or so.

It's a shame people don't have the common courtesy to do so. When I want to go slower than the speed limit, I pull off and let people pass. It's socially irresponsible not to let others go by. People who want to go 30 on a 55 mph 2-lane road should not be allowed to STEAL everyone elses' time by obstructing traffic. We wouldn't need to spend so much tax money on 4-lane roads, if slow drivers didn't abuse the 2-lane roads. Even when stuck behind a slow driver, if someone comes up behind me who appears to be an aggressive driver, I pull off and let him get ahead, hoping he'll harrass the fart up ahead so much that he/she will either pull off the road or become so scared of the harrasser that they might not want to venture onto the road again.

Hell. Even if want to go over the speed limit and someone is right behind me, I pull over and let them pass. So they can be the "canary in a coal mine" ahead of me in case there is a police car up ahead with its jaws wide open hoping to gobble up the first speeder that comes along. If their brake lights go on, I know to slow down.

SUPPORT MEDICARE EXPANSION! GET THE SENILE OFF THE HIGHWAYS AND INTO NURSING HOMES!!!

I was driving along a road when a very old woman drive over a stop sign, it was almost a crash.
Despite that i still think people should be allowed in old age too.
Maybe it´s just the bad apples are noticed more than the fit drivers.

Speak for yourself.:D

I've decided that I'm not getting any older.

I might even start getting younger.;)

My opinion is like a butthole, it stinks, but here it is anyway:

Dont allow people to drive until they are 21. Once you hit the age of 60 it is mandatory that you re-take your driving test every year until you DIE !!!

Every fucking day i have a run in with some grey haired mofo that damn near kills everyone on the road. Im pretty fed up with it, plus i have kids in my car to worry about. the highways are dangerous enough without a bunch of Stevie Wonders cruzing around

No offense, but that's the dumbest shit I've heard in my life. Do you understand the ramifications and consequences of such foolishness?

Let's take me for example.

I'm 20. I go to college and I have a job. My dad works from morning until dinner time, and my mom, being the traditional mom, is usually busier than my dad all day.

Let me ask you a few questions, now.

If I can't drive, how do I go to school? Daddy can't take me cause he's at work. Mommy can't take me because she's cleaning/cooking/grocery shopping/etc. Oh, I know... I'll take a taxi or a bus for a 10 mile ride EVERY DAY. It's not a problem - I can afford it... oh wait, I can't afford it because I can't drive to my fucking job now. So, now I have no income and no college. That's real swell.

Multiply that by a couple more MILLION college students across the country and what do you have? A big fucking mess. Parents being late for work because they had to take their kids to school or work... less people working and attending school because they can't drive. Awesome!

As I've said before, you can't be a dumbass and categorize everything. Unmarried males under 25 are more likely to drive recklessly, does that mean that all of them will? No. Elderly people are more likely to drive slowly, does that mean all of them will? No... my grandfather is 82 and he drives faster than I do despite the fact that my car is safer and performs better.

We must eliminate this ridiculous concept of categorization and focus more on the individual. Should Warik pay a higher insurance premium because he's an unmarried male under 25, or should Warik pay a normal insurance premium because he's never caused a big accident or been arrested etc... like many others his age.

i think most are fucking retarded,my latest example comes from today,my girlfriend and i were driving through the mall parking lot(2 lanes one each way) and we stopped at a stop sign and this old fuck flys by in the other lane and cuts us off,so we follwed this cock until he parked in the lot and i asked him why the fuck he cut me off, then he said why the fuck did you stop you little asshole,i smiled and said there was a stop sign ,then this cunt got in my face and tried to be tough,i just laughed and walked away

fucking old people

Tell me about it hardbdygrl, I'm down here too and it really gives me road rage too.

I agree with Warik - police need to spend more time enforcing petty speed violations, etc., and more time cracking down on what really causes accidents, mainly right-of-way violations. I set off the damn ABS TWICE yesterday driving back from the gym because people pulled out in front of me...and no, I wasn't speeding - I was actually under the limit both times. But local governments are addicted to speeding ticket revenues, so that's what the police concentrate on, especially in some towns where speed limits are set artifically low.

Having lived in Tampa for eight years, I have to agree that the elderly should have to take driving tests more frequently, or at least have their reactions, hearing, etc. tested by a doctor annually. It's a wonder I didn't have a heart attack from the pent-up road rage. Seeing plates from the heavy snowbird states (MI, WI, MN, etc.) or Ontario still makes me nervous, and I still shudder every time I see the three most terrifying words you can see on a license plate: "Je me souviens" - what is it about elderly Quebecois that makes them so much worse? (Sorry, having a flashback there...slow, regulated breathing...there, I'm better now...)
